I've never really played any racing games before.

I'd like you guys to tell me what would be the best pc racing game I could get.

Something with car customization too, sounds fun :)

My computer isn't really strong:

OS: XP

Ram: 1gig

Video: Nvidia GeForce 6600

Processor: a single 2.2ghz

Thanks

i hear gtr2 is great. not sure how it'll run on your rig, though. i'm thinking of getting it sometime this year, along with a racing wheel and pedals.

Flatout 2. Your computer will max it out, it looks fantastic, better than the last NFS, even the physics are better than in NFS. Flatout 2 is madness! The only problem will be to get used to the controls, they are pretty sensitive, but in maximum 1/2 hour you'll get used. You have a campaign (some sort of championship), earn money and customize cars. And you have a lot of racing types and even minigames, just for fun, like bowling, all accomplished with your car!

Need For Speed Carbon would be the other real choice. It has better controls and you manage a team, but no realism, physics, destruction, the graphics are pretty, but not as in Flatout 2, it has less game modes, the story blows, and it becomes kinda boring. It's more relaxing; Flatout 2 is more challenging (in the championship), but more rewarding too.

I would recommend an 'old' classic: F1 Challenge: 99-02. There are loads of mods out there, which have the most modern season. The pc has a lack of good racers.

You could also have fun with Carmageddon!

In Carmageddon, the player races a vehicle against a number of other computer controlled competitors in various settings, including city, mine and industrial areas. The player has a certain amount of time to complete each race, but more time may be gained by going through checkpoints, collecting bonuses, damaging the competitors' cars or by running over pedestrians.

Races are completed by either completing the course as one would a normal racing game, "wasting" [wrecking] all other race cars, or running over all pedestrians on the level before anyone else.

Mindless fun and gore!

Arcade is of course easier to start with, but arcade racers rarely offer as much depth as realistic racers. Race 07 is the best realistic racing game on PC. Although you need a racing wheel to really enjoy the realism.

Need for Speed Underground 2, Most Wanted, and Carbon. Underground 2 is a bit old now, so check it out only if you don't mind graphics that much... Carbon is a bit short, but still fun. Most Wanted is the best of the bunch IMO, spent countless hours on it.
