I was in Virgin yesterday with Crysis Warhead in one hand and RA3 in the other trying to decide which to get, I walked away without getting either. The reason being the DRM behind each game I know beyond any doubt that I will need to install these game more than 5 times, first off they will both go on my laptop and Desktop so that is two gone right there then I will probably do a complete wipe of my systems and have to reinstall at some point.

What gets to me though is that I really want to play both of these games but my desire to not support EA's DRM policy out weights that. And on top of that why cant these titles be offered DRM free over Steam? EA does most of the publishing for Valve now anyway so why start offering us DRM free versions of EA games over Steam? It is basically a way of copy protecting the game anyway since you have to be logged into the account u bought it from to play the game in the first place.

Please all of you, if you ever see an EA employee slap them for me, thanks.

On another note how is C&C3? I have always been a RA fan and never really got into the C&C part of the series and if I can't play RA3 might as well get the next best thing.

Correct me if I'm wrong - I think if you first uninstall the game properly before reinstalling the OS, your used activation point will be revoked. So you're not fully out of luck.

Yeah I know, but Warhead still comes with the same DRM that is on the disc so there is no point.

That sounds similar to how you have to be logged into windows live in order to save in newer games. If you just disconnect from the internet at the install it should not ask for internet verification tho. internet is not a system requirement for single player games!!! stupid security concerns are such a pain.

Red Alert 3 is good but not great. I am midway through it (Leningrad mission on HARD!) I think it is a good RTS and lots of fun but I love these kind of games. As for the DRM, I also was originally opposed to being forced to activate the game and didn't want to have to install an AV/firewall on my offline gaming PC but I took a chance and just quickly connected my modem (no AV) and activate RA3 in under 5 seconds. It was painless and now I can play without the DVD.

Well, RA3 now has a deauth tool, which for me is at least acceptable. I really want ME, but it has probably the worst DRM of any game, save Spore, which I think is the same. Why can't they add a deauth tool to all their securom activated games? Even though I don't like it, at least its workable, and Id actually prefer that to something most PC gamers find acceptable or even preferable, which is Steam.

I still get chills whenever I remember hearing "Incomming nuke".

What was wrong with the DRM on ME?

How would anyone know how good the game is (and quality is up to personal opinion, anyway) unless they've, uh, played it?
