I really do not mean to sound Negative or be an ass and as much as I enjoy the LOTR books & Movies, I cannot for the life of me see LOTRO being a good game. And for 1 simple reason I that will never change my mind.
 Turbine is making it.
Enough said. AC sucked imo, AC2 was laughable, AD&D:O was even worse, And now LOTR? Im sorry I cannot support a developer that made horrible MMO's in the past. They are taking a franchise everyone loves and making a really bad game out of it.
They spend absolutly no time with their MMO's after release so just be prepared for a let down, thats all im saying. AC was the only game they supported even after AD&D came out. AC2 was cancelled right after they released it (it was released for the cash grab because they were low on money and had no way to fund a game that was about 20% complete)
Dungeons and Dragons came out, and it was an interesting Idea, the only problem with it that Turbine screwed up on was the Setting. No one wants to play an MMO that takes place in 1 city for the vast majority of the game with the odd side quest that went outside. It was horribly designed going in 1 warehouse or sewer after another.
I just have the feeling LOTR is going to go the route of AC2. It will be released as a beta client full of bugs & lack of mid to high level content and die in its first 3 months due to lack of patience and if their track record confirms anything its that if they get flamed by reviews and gamers they will drop all support and let it die before it even begins.
Why else would they offer a Lifetime Pass for 200 dollars? Because they know their own track record.

Sorry for making this so negative but I just will not support anything made by Turbine ever again

LOTR as it stands now is a pretty good MMO.
The problem is the content. We all know the LOTR story, so why buy it now when the content is pretty-much limited to the first book? Personally I will wait until I can walk up to the gates of Mordor and play the game from start to finish otherwise it is too much like WoW at release with frustrating limited end-game content.
The other thing is that it is closely modeled on WoW but lacks it's depth of character and 'feel'. The humour built in to WoW was another big plus but I haven't seen any evidence of this in LOTR yet.
Its crap and the same as everyother rmmorpg with bad pvp.Terrorantula
I agree. But if you are into a lot of PvE, it's probably the best out there. I think I'm going to get it, but I don't see myself playing for over 3 months.
I suppose I don't care either way, though I am leaning towards hoping it fails. Lore reasons aside, the lack of any sort of cloth caster/magic user seems disgraceful. I do not enjoy playing melee characters and the bard looks like a halfhearted attempt at a caster, so this MMO is not even on my radar.
I have played it now for about a week and in my ipinion so far so good. Ive hit the level cap and im waiting for the official game to come out but I really like it. I was a WoW player for over a year and got sooooo bored with it. So I waited for something like LOTRO to come out, I tried it, and like I said so far so good.
I played during the stress test and open beta.Â

To me the game was not much better than some of their competition. When you first start a new character, you get specially crafted quests based upon your race. The game is tricky in this because these quests are so well done and interactive that I was quickly blown away and thought it was going to be a truly awesome game.
Â
Unfortunately, those quests only lasted up until level 3 or so and from then on, well to level 15 anyways, all I got was the typical MMO quests... go get 10 leather...go gather seeds... go kill this plant... There was one innovative technique in The Shire, with having to sneak around the npcs unseen, but that was the only unique mission I saw after level 3.
Â
Now, it's very obvious that level 15 is not even 1/5th of the entire game, so it's very possible that the quests afterwards were better and more, um important. So I may regret my decision, but I've already cancelled my pre-order so I don't have to pay for it.
Â
All that said, I think LOTRO is one of the better current MMOs. In my opinion though, that's not saying much.Â
MMORPGs are horrible, and this one is about as bland as it gets.gullytolwynI agree with this guy, it is really cookie-cutter-esque. I mean, everything about the game has been done before, except for maybe the Lore Master class, and the lack of mages or wizards. But otherwise, it's very, very repetitive and uninspiring.
