How is it possible that I reformat to fix boot registry problems and now my comp runs slower then it did with all my programs before the reformat?

I only installed drivers and mouse/ keyboard software, soundcard drivers and guild wars. I play gws for like 2-3 days fine, then one day it freezes and I emergency shutdown, it froze up about 5 times in a row with constant restarts needed.

And now, my comp is slow and freezes randomly. I click start, my computer and bam appears frozen after 30-40 seconds it finally opens my computer. Turn on nvidia monitor 30-40 seconds it asks for permission instead of instantly. Got no applications turned on that can resource hog that much.

So how is it my computer can run slower after a reformat and brand new os install, and have new problems of random freezing and slow downs? Should I just reformat again and hope that the second time is the charm? Is it my ram or something having problems? I don't know what to do with my computer any more, reformatting fixed it and it worked fine, then one day I just get hit with all these problems at once (I didn't even do anything like change software or mess with a registry cleaner). It just randomly decided today that it doesn't want to run guild wars.

Used nvidia monitor and noticed that the "Disk" performance was a bit jumpy, shooting up to 20-30% just by clicking start and my computer. Could that have anything to do with my problem?

It helps to install video card drivers and the motherboard chipset drivers. Your temps might be high, get core temp. If your on windows vista then you need to F8 into safe mode and disable driver signatures for Core temp to work.

Here is Coretemp

Your hard drive might be going out or you might have a bad motherboard -- hope not.

-edit-

I should also add that I hear some of the latest Nvidia drivers are the cause of a lot of BSODs and game crashes, use the drivers that came with your 8800GTX.

Try doing it again, if it continues it will prob be a hardware problem. Or it could be the case that something your putting back on is corrupted with a virus or summit.

well, my computer had the slowdowns, freezes, and forced shut-downs when I did the "quick format." I was able to fix it with a chkdsk. I remember your earlier posts before you reformatted. Sorry it didn't do the trick = (

Maybe there is a virus problem or some software has been damage and can't run very well....

Try to check the CPU usage from the Windows Task manager if it exceed 2%-10% and you are not running any heavy program or games then check the processes and see which software are doing that and just shut it down.

Well I notice sometimes my Disk performance on the nvidia monitor shoots up to 100% then goes back down to 0. I know it's not over heating because my temps are the usual as before the reformat.

70 video card (running a game) 55 cpu system 39.

My motherboard bios updates were already all installed on my mobo (where you have to flash it to install it) But what other drivers/ stuff do I need to dl for my mobo?

I dled the 15.01 nforcewinvista file off evga.com and installed those already so I think that was all I needed? If not let me know what files off what site I need to get.

Ran a full checkdisk, still have problems. Now any game I play can end up freezing up and then when I restart (emergency restart) it has many problems rebooting. Most of the time it'll freeze at like the black screen right before the windows icon, or get all the way to the users I put in password desktop shows up then freezes. Also had plenty of disk read errors as well as registry files missing or corrupt later on.

I truly dunno what to do i'm out of ideas as to why my vistas getting out of whack.

I do have the upgrade version of home premium and since I had to reformat my computer what I did was install the trial version of the home premium to get an os on the hd, then re-installed over with the home premium and clicked to erase the old files in the install (makes it into windows.old).

I need some advice on how to go through with this reformat now, in hopes that it'll work right (probably won't).

So after I reformat, first thing to do is install the mobo drivers, then the graphics drivers and then I can install the stuff for my mouse, keyboard and sound card right? Should I install the mobo drivers and graphic drivers and all that before I let windows update my computer?

I am really confused as to how I get worse problems after a reformat and absolutely like no programs except the bare essentials and a game to try, compared to having all the old stuff on my computer.

When I "re-install over the trial vista" should I just choose the upgrade option instead? It would not get rid of the files and I guess instead it just adds whatever else was needed. Or should I stick with the whole erase/ put to windows.old and install a fresh vista for my reinstall.
