Im currently running an Intel E7200 Dual Core @2.53 GHz---4gb DDR2--- GTS250 1gb

If I upgraded I would need to replace the motherboard ram and cpu

I'm looking at the i5 651 quad core which is about $200

Total it would be 500-600 dollars because Im replacing the case and PSU

And I already have 2 GTS250 1gb that I plan to sli. My current Motherboard only has one PCI Express

Is it worth upgrading yet or should I wait for more affordable i7s

I hope you mean i5 750, as that is the only i5 (aside from the 760) that is a quad core. I do believe all other i5 processors are dual core.

If you're asking about the i5 750, it should serve fine as an upgrade from what you're using, especially if you just want an awesome gaming computer. A quick warning though: socket 1156 processors can, by design, only support 16 PCI Express lanes meaning that the bandwidth is split while two cards are in SLI/Crossfire config, allowing for only 8 lanes per card. I don't think this will cause any great decrease in performance with most cards, but it's still good to be informed before making any purchase decisions.

For the huge amount of money your dishing out, I can't see how the upgrade is justifiable. Your current dual core won't see any trouble from games for some time still, and by that time, the said i5, will be a lot cheaper. I'd stick with your current setup and wait until the inevitable price drop on CPUs hits, in the coming months. If anything, I'd get a more powerful GPU now, and forget about SLI. Single card solutions are the way to go. Check out the GTX460 if you want to stay Nvidia, or look at an HD5830 or 5850. You'll see much more of a performance increase in games, over that massive costly upgrade that your thinking of doing. What's your PSU BTW? Usually a CPU change wouldn't warrant a PSU change as well.

The CPU does need an update. I'd say get the i5 and save some money. i7's for gaming hardly run better, maybe 5fps more... very negligible And he said he already has 2 250gts, might as well use them, and they still run great.

Ohh excuse my mistake. I thought that he said he was planning to buy another one. I'd still just hold out for the price drop, just because of the sheer amount of money he's spending. But, with no clear time when that price drop may come, if money is not a problem, than upgrading from that rather dated dual core wouldn't hurt anything.
