Obviously im not on that computer right now. How do i restore it? Any other suggestions. Just to remind you, avira told me that it had found a virus. something to do with system 32. I then quarantined it, then it froze. So i restarted it. Now after the POST, just before the windows logo should come up, a black screen comes up.
Look, if you somehow deleted the System32 folder, then you are in serious problems. Most of the critical Windows files reside in that folder. If you don't have the disc (??) and I am willing to bet that Safe mode won't work), then you have a useless machine until you get the disc (or but Windows 7) and repair or reinstall.
If you have a laptop, some of those may come without discs. In that case there is a hidded partition you can use to recover your system. If that is the case, read your laptop manual for the restore procedure.
No the virus was likely in your System 32 folder which is the folder that contains all of your operating system files. Does your computer boot into windows? Perhaps the virus attached itself to a system file and you accidentally deleted it :(Obviously im not on that computer right now. How do i restore it? Any other suggestions. Safe mode doesnt work, the black screen still comes up. I havent deleted windows cos when i tried safe mode it asked me which OS i wanted, and it said windows xp sp2.
That's probably because technically windows is still there, but you probably just deleted the boot files or something similar. Stop being ignorant, you messed up, it's your fault you can't boot. Get a hold of another windows copy or ring windows up and explain that a virus has deleted your boot files, don't tell them you did it, then give them your activation code for proof you have/had a copy which should be on your tower somewhere, they might send you a new one, My friend had something similar happen.
what kinda of pc, you might have a recovery mode that accesses a seperate partition used to restore windows.

Yes, lets all ring "windows", windows are in the household, LOL, you need to ring Microsoft, and they won't care, why? Because, they will send you to a your PC manufacturor, and I highly doubt that they will send one free, since when did "windows" send any free stuff? after-all, they are also a business.
i have windows xp service pack2. I can borrow the XP CD off a mate. If i repair windows using the CD, will i need the product key.

I've also heard others suggest ringing Microsoft/ Manufacturer, and as I've said, my friend did it with success, although, his predicament differed slightly. Amith12, on a friendlier note, I recognise you from somewhere, did you used to post on the Oblivion boards?Amith12
