Evening All!

Well , basically I would like to get a new monitor for my new PC (PC in Sig).

Unfortunatly for me , I don't really have a great knowledge of GOOD monitors. So for a few days don't mind my monitor question posts:? With some basic searching I came across this one. So some feed back would be nice.

Also , if anyone feels like telling me the most important things to look for in monitor specs that would be really appreciated.

I definatly want an LCD , I know CRT's have thier advantages but just not interested.

Thanks for any help here!

The 226BW is really popular, but keep in mind that it's a TN panel. Most people don't mind it, but TN panels generally have relatively low color-reproduction and viewing angles (or so I hear). Most 22-inch monitors are TN panels, but they seem to be very popular these days. Another thing to note: the 226BW comes in different "varieties". The S-panels are considered the best and A-panels the worst (suffer from some light bleeding and poor image quality settings out-of-the-box), so you're taking a bit of a gamble when you buy one since you could get either model. Most people seem to really like the 226BW, though.

That is a very good monitor, one of the best (TN?) screens there are. The only problem with it is that there is a bit of a lottery with what panel you'll be getting.

Both panels are good, although the Samung is better then the other.

Otherwise, I've heard that the 226CW solves that though.

How could i find out what panel I got? If I found a store that carried one , what would I look for to find an A-Panel?

The whole "S-panel" "A-panel" ordeal seems a bit blown out of proportion, really. I'm assuming you can check on the box, but I'm not too sure really. I recommend you see the panel in person at a store before buying it online.

If it is possible you should buy it plug it up and see if you like it or not and then if not take it back and keep on looking. I know you can't do this with all that you see. I'm not really all that good at looking for monitors eithere but at least I have a rough idea what to look for.

Like I used to have a old monitor it was a 19" and it had HD in it when I was reading it and it is a viewsonic and for the longest time it was great and now I have given it to my Mom and it looks great on her machine but anyways I wanted a tv that could be used as a monitor as well so I got my self a 32" vizio and it is beautiful anyways.

What kind of a pc do you have like what are the spcs?

it would be nice if you gave a budget.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824002337

its an S-IPS model.

In other words S-IPS>cheap TN monitor.

I would highly recommend getting this monitor, simply awesome for price/specs.

Any link showing that it is an S-IPS panel?
I find that hard to believe due to the price and specs.
My guess would be either S-PVA or P-MVA.

Well that is the tough part, there is no standards in monitor specs.
While one monitor might be listed with a 16ms response time, Dell2007wfp, it might be faster/have less ghosting than 2ms monitors. The same goes for colors(i.e. dithering or true 8bit) contrast(dynamic or true) and brightness.

All these things can be found on wikipedia.

As for the panels, from best to worst-
S-IPS
S-PVA
P-MVA
TN Film

Why they are all better than TN is the fact that they offer better color reproduction, viewing angles and contrast ratios. To learn more on the panels.
TN panels are so common because the are so cheap, the vast majority of consumers don't know the difference. It is pretty hard to tell the difference unless you are looking at the different panels right next to each other.

As for telling you if it is worth it or not to spend the extra money on the better quality panels, I can't really tell you.
IMO- It was worth it to know that I am getting near the best IQ I can, I bought the Dell2007wfp for ~$360.
It really depends on your budget and getting the best you can for that budget.
Again, IMO- you should spend roughly the same price on your monitor as you do on your GPU.

I think that you are thinking of this NEC model which is an S-IPS panel. The other seems too cheap to be an S-IPS.
