*let me start off by syaing, when it comes to computer hardware, i do not know a lot. that's why im here.*

This whole thing came about when i downloaded that "duty calls" game and was going to try it out. well after i installed it and tried playing it, i was forced to quit because if i had to guess my frame rate was around 5-10. After that incident i remembered how much i did enjoy PC gaming before i got my PS3. I am thinking about getting back into some games, but clearly my computer is not ready. I listed my specs below, and im wondering where i could use an upgrade? I know nothing about computer hardware really, so i turn to you guys. any help is appreciated, thanks.

OMFG!

Your CPU and RAM are fine for now but you NEED to get a proper GPU. Unfortunately we can't suggest anything without more details.

Is this a pre-built PC? If so tell us the brand and model.

If not then;

Do you have a PCI-E 16x slot available?

Details about your powersupply?

you ready.. its time.. this will ranger up your pc!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmavAP6od5M

if you got the cpu 9/10 its pci-e as only later am2+ socket chipsets took those and by then we hand standardized slots so pci and pci-e x16 1.0

can you see me at like $200

if so here is what i recommend

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182173

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102898

install those two and you can expct to play bfbc2 on highest no aa or af, gta IV on highest no aa or af and crysis the same way never mind any other game you want.

you would need to cut back for shattered horizons though.. if you wanted to play that itd be on medium - high

I did re-check your CPU and to be honest the clock speed is low. At some point your going to want to change it. Luckily the PSU and video card can be transfered to a new PC when you decide to do that.

7GB RAM is weird, I wonder why they did that. To be honest, that CPU is going to hot you back, and in some games, a lot.

i know i never quite understood why it was loaded with RAM. it was just a deal, it came with a 24" HD monitor and a printer and stuff. it was an odd sale from a sams club a couple years back. at the time it was nice, but obivously it needs a tad update by now

I was referring to the fact that they mix and match RAM but you also correct when you say that they load their PC's with unnecessary RAM...

Be sure to note; that is a VERY slow 1.8Ghz quadcore, it wont be able to handle games very well (X4 9150e) no matter how blazing fast graphic card you have it paired up with.

well its just not an easy call to make..

What OS are you running?

(xp, vista, 7 and (if windows xp)do you have the install discs for it)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103687&cm_re=athalon_II_x2-_-19-103-687-_-Product (cpu $60)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161309 (gpu $110)

that leaves 53 dollars for shipping & handling

and while you would still be lightyears ahead of where you are its a tough sell..coming my way..

thats the reason for the tough call.. its basically 3/4 of a whole new system.. which is dumb.. in your case if you wanted to go full install. its not too hard but its no walk in the park.. id sooner recommend a partial upgrade then sit and wait on the rest rather than getting 75% of the end result anyway now..and lose preformance later.

yah just upgrade the power supply and video card for now. Get a good power supply like that antec one, so when you do decide to scrap your current build you can transfer over the psu and the graphics card. To be honest though, your cpu sux ballz, but upgrading the video card to the 5750 alone will give you a huge boost.

The Phenom (the original) was a unefficient design and a quite bad performing one per Mhz, and this particular quad is with 9100 the slowest Quad of them all.

Even today when you have games needing atleast two threads with ~2.3Ghz cores. (usally reffers to C2D witch is ~40% faster or even faster than that per clock cyckle.) resulting in that CPU being about a Ghz to slow to feed the grahics with enough frames to be even be the "recomended" CPU.

@Toms the Athl X2 260u (dualcore @ 1.8Ghz, slowest CPU in the test) scores the about same result as the Phenom 1.8Ghz X4 (9150e) in vantage CPU test. (quite scalable with atleast four threads)

Meaning with todays standards a Ph2 X4 witch were running about 800Mhz would be as fast as this Phenom 9150e X4 is. (atleast in this graphic unbound benchmark.)

There you have it the 9150e is figthing it out with the *possible* slowest desktop CPU you can buy at this time. XP I would strongly suggest RunningRiot12 get a better CPU BEFORE he gets a Highend GPU.
