Hi I was wondering if someone could tell me some good graphics cards that are compatible with my pc?!?!?

At the moment iv'e got the graphics card which came with my pc the Nvidia  6200 LE , and that's not letting me do the gaming i want to do . I have an intel pentium 4 CPU 3.06 Ghz, Windows Xp Service Pack 2. 1.00 Gb ram

I hope this is enough info for someone to tell me what graphics card i need ?

The games im wanting to play Oblivion, Rainbow 6 vegas and games with good graphics like that . Would  an ATI Radeon X1950 pro saphire be compatible ? Thanks

The other critical component is having a good power supply,If this is a Pre-built(Dell,HP,Gateway) and if your mobo has a PCIe x16 slot then I would recommend going with a 7600gt/1800 on the low end side.

But if you have a good PSU then you can add a 7950gt/1950 to your system,But If you can try to wait for a bit since new dx10 cards are coming out in the next few weeks ,But if you want a video card to play games at alot better resolutions than what you have right now I would say get a 7600gt/1800 until newer dx cards hit the stree.

The other thing I would into upgrading woud be the amount of system ram,2gb seem to be the sweet spot for games like BF2/BF2142 and oblivion.

Download a program called CPU-Z, then on the 'Motherboard' tab it should tell you your graphics interface. You'll have to open your case and see what PSU you have. Anything around 450w should be enough for an X1950 PRO.

Any card you like. You're only limited by your budget and psu. There have already been some good suggestions. My guess is your're not someone who updates regularly so I would suggest to wait for the 8600 so you know it will last a while.

I play BF2142 on high, 1024x768 no problem. Also I play Oblivion on Ultra High, 1024x768, and 2xAA, no problem with 1GB of RAM...

Well........ either get the best graphics card you can currently afford probably the nvidia 7950 gt or the ati equivalent(i dont know ati ) Or you could get the nvidia 7600gt for around £70-80 which will be fine for playing all games out now and then get a dx10 card when the more reasonable priced models come out like the 8600 etc etc

Yeah,But with 2 gigs of ram you are able to run at higher resolution settings and the maps load alot quicker. With my rig(AMD3700@2.4ghz,7900gt SC,2gb Crucial Ballistix ram) I went from running at 1280x960 with max settings 4xAA hitting 45-50fps with 1gb of ram to hitting 60-65 fps on 2gb and also the load times got ALOT shorter.

To play Oblivion maxed out your going to need the following:

1GB System RAM

3.0GHZ Intel Pentium Processor or equivalent

And for the Graphics card either the

ATI X800 series

NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series

Or anything higher.

That's not enough to play it maxed out, that's just the recommended requirements.. Anyway, psu is your power supply unit, you can't miss it when you open your case and that's what you'll need to do to check it. On the side is where it's specs are printed. Look for the maximum wattage and amps on the 12v rail. If you want to get a high end card you'll be looking for at least 450w and 20+ amps on the 12v rail for a stable system.

the psu is the box that the power supply lead plugs into.... it should have a sticker on it telling you the wattage etc
