...and I'm currently reinstalling cod4, just because I have nothing else to do right now. I planned on quitting video games for good because I played too much but I think I'll be able to control myself better now. Did anyone else ever try to quit gaming but couldn't handle not shooting digital peoples?

What do you achieve not playing games? People sit around watching hours of TV every day but thats acceptable?

I was out of the house way more often, and got way better at playing guitar, that's what I noticed. But there were times where I was watching nothing special on TV that could have been spent better playing video games.

There's no point in quiting games when you hate the world. At least that's how it is for me. Of course, I'm no addict. I may play a lot of games, but I also have a music project, and listen to my cds.

Almost all games nowadays suck (can't remember a good game from this year, fun, a few, good, none), it's easy to get over gaming, unless you find a game that you actually enjoy and has more replay value than 3 years worth of new games.

Longest was 2 months.

Nah, gaming is a hobby just like any other. Reading a book, watching TV, or whatnot. I play alot sometimes, and other times not too much. I love gaming and have no plans of quiting.

Because I'm still a gamer, it's just when there's nothing good to play, I post on Gamespot. And considering how often I find myself posting, the pickings are scarce lately. Probably the first year of my life that I play less than 2 hours of games per week. Plus, not *all* the games are bad these days, it's just that there are much less good ones. I'd love for a new wave of originality (some Indy titles are beginning to fill this gap), but I'm never going to expect it from other than a few developers.

I've had no reason to quit really, I still have a healthy social and romantic life, I'm in school full-time, have a music project, and plenty more going on.

Yea I went an entire 2 semesters (excluding Christmas Break). It helped me to control my gaming habits more and focus on other things. I look back now, it was good for me to give it up for a while.

The only time I "quit" is when I just finished with a game and find myself looking for a new game to get. During that time I shuffle around the house aimlessly frequently proclaiming out loud to everyone "I'm bored!" Good thing I have PnP RPG books to keep me sane during my video game drought. ...But then the boredom sets in again when I finish the book and have to look for a new one to read... Usually by that time, I have a new game to play. It's a vicious cycle. :P

I've done it for 5 years, and then another 2 years. I'm in my early 20s so you could guess the time-line yourself. I could do it, but why? It's a hobby and it's my favorite hobby, besides surfing.

I see no point in quitting gaming, since having a job, going to college and actually meeting girls pretty much leaves you something like an hour a day at the very most to play.

Well said, if you play in moderation like any other hobby or activity then why would it be a problem or a need to quit? I think that people want to quit because they play way too much. I quit a couple months ago because I didn't have a job, wasn't going to school, wasn't out talking and meeting people, and the gaming was taking up so much of my time i was failing in life lol so i completely quit. I just go back into it now that I'm working and I don't even play that much. Moderation and balance is the key unless you just really don't like gaming.

I quit pc gaming in 2007 due to travel, basically just using my psp to get my gaming fix.

Now I'm back and have a huge backlog of games to get through.

Never thought of quitting gaming, its just an activity to pass the time and entertain myself. No different than watching TV or reading a book, imho.

I've tried many times but I always end up playing again. However, I find games much more enjoyable in moderation just like anything.

I like the idea of video games but no game seems to hold my attention anymore. But I'm allways sitting around looking forward to the next big title. Then I play it for san hour or so and then look forward to the next.

I've gone very long periods of time. Maybe 7 months. I'm definitely not as addicted to games now as I used to be and I have a little more control of my time.

i went longer, about 4/5 months, so i could study for my exams. i think it was a healthy move. i was never bored without them. i really try to regulate myself now, it's easy to forget that you don't have to enjoy or complete a game, if it's not fun and enjoyable, forget it. turn it off.

i think it's a weird side effect of gamespot forums that one almost feels pressure to play a game. it's hard to explain. reply if you know what i mean.

I used to play games every minute i had free time. Now i fill most of my time programming and doing art on my PC, hopefully i can complete my own game one day :D. You should try to find yourself another hobby if you feel your wasting time playing games. You can totally self learn stuff on the internet like i did with artwork and programming.
