Hey all, I am thinking of upgrading from my e8500 to an i5-2500k, I know the i5-2500k is the best bang for your buck currently but was wondering if you think this cpu will be enough to max bf3 with a overclock when coupled with the right gpu? I dont want to buy an i5-2500k and not be able to max it due to the cpu, as cpu bottlenecks are the worse to upgrade from.

Will this cpu last me for a few years comfortably without a cpu bottleneck?

aside from the 2600 hexcores, the 2500s are the most powerful CPUs you can buy. Of course it will max it.

A 2500k overclocked will do you just fine. Just make sure you've got the GPU to back it up.

Any Phenom ll X4, X6, Core 2 Quad Q9550+, Core i5 Quad Core, and Core i7 should max it just fine when coupled with the right GPU.

The above list will be able to play BF3 just fine with a good gpu. The i5 2500k should do fine for several years. The i7 2600's are quad cores not hexacores.

the i5 2500k is perfect for games. i went for a i7 2600k as i do quite a lot of video editing and 3DS max work so the extra cost was justified. but if i was just buy a games machine i would of bought the i5

Quad cores with hyperthreading enabled. Hyperthreading is disabled on the 2500's. Again, this doesn't have any impact on current gen games.

Even then they wouldn't be hex cores
