I am looking to replace my old Q6600 2.4 ghz with an i5 or i7 and 8 gb ddr3 ram instead of 4gb ddr2.
I'm not too confident with overclocking so I figured I would go with overclockers.co.uk's pre-overclocked/tested bundles.
Problem is, i7s are expensive so I have a few questions.
My price range only really permits this onehttp://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-082-OE
Is it a good choice? also:
1) Mostly for gaming, but some amatuer (and first year uni) computer science student, what kind of benefits would I see with an i7 over an i5 and same clocks?
2) I intend to get an SSD drive at some point (the new OCZ Vertex 4 range) will that motherboard have any trouble getting the most out of one? even in raid 0 perhaps (long term?)
3) Its only 2nd gen i7 (Sandy) ... is there REALLY much of an improvement in Ivybridge to warrant £100 more for the same speed?
4) The motherboard... any shortcomings? I would of like one of those snazzy click BIOS ones, and ability to charge my phone while the computer is off ect... but I dunno, unless that is in the higher bundles I can't justify the price.
So ultimatly, these processors have been around awhile and knowing the next gen of consoles are on the way. take a plundge for i7 for long term, or is i5 Ivy bridge and awesome motherboard the way to go?
I could push more money, but if its NEAR pointless I would rather know now.
Thanks!
