In general, Intel/Nvidia are higher end, big money items that perform at the highest standards. Ati/AMD on the other hand are way better price for the power you get. If money is not a question then go with Intel, if your an average gamer than AMD/ATI is the way to go!

The AMD and i7 are similar in games, except the i7 is better in applications. However the price is not worth the performance. If he just wants games, get the phenom, it's just as good as the i7 in games.

AMD IS THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK.

Intel is just brand, he can get the i7 extreme which is like only 10 percent faster than phenom 2 955.

but hell be paying 800 dollars extra, Its not worth it, hell be just paying for the advertisement.

If money is not an issue, the answer is simple... i7. I love how most of the people that have a sig with AMD claim to be balanced, and say to go with AMD. OP has already stated... price/performance is not the issue... just performance. I use AMD when budget becomes a concern, but i7 is the best when you have money to blow.

Uh... And what did I say? I said that if money is not an issue and you don't care about the total money waste on a processor that will be outdated eventually, and when it gets outdated all of them will be the same, then get an I7 extreme edition. It is the best performing CPU on the market. Wtf?

Of course, I said when you are super rich. For 920-PII 955, I will always suggest 955.
