If I could upgrade one thing on my rig, what should it be?

And what should I upgrade to? My rig specs are in my sig, and please post a link of the item from newegg or a similar site. I was thinking of getting a Phenom 965 + new mobo + ddr3 ram, but I can't find a decent combo, so if you could find one of those that would be pretty cool too.

I've already got a nice Zalman heatsink that keeps my CPU running below 50 C almost all the time, although it might spike to 55 under load. Heat isn't much of an issue with a case like mine, but I would like to speed up the computer a bit more.

What Size Monitor do you Have ?

Xsan3

27" 1080p brand-new monitor. Still returnable for like $330 from Costco if I find something better though. My only problem with it is the fact that it has only 1 HDMI and 1 DVI port, not enough for both my PS3 and my 360 to get hooked up to it.

Get a second HD 4870 or a new graphics card. Based on your computer, no matter how you upgrade you will always get more performance out of money spent on GPU.

I was going to add that a monitor is always a good upgrade - but since u have a 27", thats pretty great . . And for $330 bucks too - wow..

Mine is also 28", and with only one HDMI, I havnt seen any more that size wtih more than one HDMI port, u may have to settle for a SPLITTER. They're cheap enough...

MSI 790XT-G45 AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor HDX945WFGMBOX

XFX HD-487A-ZWFC Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Instead of wasting money on DDR3 ram , you get to keep your current ones with this DDR2 Crossfire-ready Mobo, and instead get a 2nd 4870. CPU is subject to your desire - get a 955/965 if you so wish.

The OP's got an SB750-equipped board. Wouldn't that allow the OP to upgrade to a Phenom II with the appropriate BIOS update?

Video card change that to a GTX 460 and change your cpu cooler to a corsair h50 or a Coolit Eco liquid cooler. That should give you a good boost in performance with some overclocking.

I'm still not sure what would benefit me most...

I could get a 955 and update my BIOS and overclock it, or for about the same price I could buy a GTX 460, or I could buy another 4870 and Crossfire.

My only concern is that if I buy a new VGA card, I might be bottlenecked by my CPU or RAM.

What resolution is your monitor? Monitors are very important as they actually make the games look better, not just run smoother. If your monitor is ok then I would just upgrade the graphics card to a NVIDIA GTX260 or ATI 5850.
