The core game isnt anything TOO hard, its just the small things that make it hard. Like strategy. I recommend playing a few tutorials AND the single player first.

The game will start you out in the practice league to gain your bearings. After that, you will fight 5 placement matches to determine your overall skill level. If you don't do so good in your placement matches, you will be placed in bronze league and have to work your way up the ladder to the harder skill levels.

Expect to lose a lot in Starcraft 2. However you will learn new things every game you play. The more you keep it at the better you will get. Don't get discouraged and have fun.

The skill ceiling is extremely high, meaning the difference between a newb and a pro is huge. However, online has brackets, bronze/silver/gold/platinum/diamond/masters/grand masters. You will most likely start out in bronze league, however, I was brand new to sc2 but experienced in RTS's in general, so it placed me in the gold league. You will have fun online no matter what, because it wont put you against pros, it will put you against people of similar skill, letting you work your way up through the rankings / leagues. As long as you don't let it overwhelm you, and just keep playing, it is one of the best RTS's ever.

Unless your redicolously skilled you will likely sit around a 50% win rate. Most people seem to sit around their since the brackets are split up and the match making actually does a good job.

The curve is very steep, and the laddering is designed to keep you at a 50/50 win/loss. So, on average, you should get your *** kicked 50% of the time. :D

Make sure to watch your replays whenever you have a chance. They will help you learn new strategy's and point out the mistakes you made.

The matchmaking system is designed to keep your win/loss ratio at 50%. You'll be getting your *** kicked until you're in the right league. From my experience, I'll win 2-3 games then get thoroughly crushed. Then I might lose 2-3 games and face someone who cannon rushes the wrong position on the map. It's really inconsistent and could use some more work, imo.

Yes at first if you skip the practice matches, which I highly suggest to.

The matchmaking ladder system will take care of putting you where you belong, at 50% win/loss ratio. If you magically improve and win a few matches in a row, you'll raise in the ladder with better players until your WLR is back at 50% again.

Yes. But don't let that get you down. Examine the way other players of your race play and take note of what they're doing better than you.
