If you play Dota2 you will find LoL to be more noob friendly. Basically it is the same things sans there are some mechanics differences on LoL:
-You don't lose gold when you die.
-Towers will never target you when there are minions with you unless you attack an enemy champion.
-You must buy the champions. Only 10 of them are free and each week the free rooster is rotated.
-There are bushes which allow you to hide unless there is a ward or you can see invisible units.
-There are buffs that some creeps from the jungle drop when they die.
-Max level is 18.
-No runes from the river, instead, you must buy them.
-There is a mastery tree.
-2 free spells that have a long cooldown but can save you (I frankly hate those 2 spells).
-Your account has a leveling system. The higher it is, you can get more runes slot and spend more points on Mastery Tree
I think these are the major differences between those 2.

When my old DotA 1 buddies tried out LoL for the first time, we used to call it 'DotA for dummies'.
I prefer it a lot more than Dota2 and i've been playing it for over 3 years now. I know people say it's *Noob Friendly* and maybe that's why it's A LOT more popular, but really I found Dota2 to have many "Annoying" mechanics like denying creeps which just made the game more of a pain than it needed to be.
Depends. Dota 2 (based on my HoN experience) is a much more farm oriented game. You try to get a carry fed and the team is built around that, the gankers try to keep the other carry down, the intiators try to force fights where you can kill them off, the supports keep the map warded so the carry can farm, and obviously the carry kills everyone else.
The biggest change is magic scaling, in Dota you have mages who hit a peak early game and then get weaker. In LoL they get rid of the str/agi/int tree in favor of magical scaling and physical scaling (this is what you are used to). The teams are still built around a carry, but there is much less of an emphasis on trying to get the carry fed to the point of getting the supports and everyone else underleveled and undergeared.
I personally like LoL and Smite (a third person moba which borrows heavily from Leagues take) because its much more fun for everyone on the team, and the matches tend to be action packed from the start with no end until the base goes down.
I like them both but highly prefer League's take on the game, as it as lot more fast paced and as a poster above said, it usually has big plays going down from start to finish. Some design choices from Dota are also highly questionable in my mind, but seeing as how I don't fully understand the game and its counter play I may be just grasping here, but in LoL generally if you are a high damage dealer oriented to the carry role, you aren't going to have any crowd control, which I like. Your team will have to supply that for you to set you up for your damage. One example from Dota in particular stands out in my mind which is Faceless Void, who can basically stun an entire team and proceed to eat their faces. A carry with that much damage potential should by no means have a stun with that much radius built into his/her kit. I hate the idea of targeted stuns.

OP I see no harm at giving LoL a go. I tried to give LoL a go but the heroes and items were severly underwhelming / bland compared to Dota 2.
.... what the hell am I reading? You have to be careful with these LoL players, they are so full of s*it sometimes .... its nowhere near as deep and its competitive matches are frigging boring by comparison.... hell most of them only like League because it was the first free one, and its easier, most of the LoL lovers didn't even play the original dota and are clinging to this game because its so grind heavy they are "committed". In order of Skill Ceiling and Competivness the order Goes HoN > DoTA 2 > LoL ..... LoL has the most players because it was the first Free one, and it is more accessible, but the trade off is it certainly is NOT deeper than the other 2.... that is a damn right lie. Popularity isn't always best as many will argue ..... for example CoD is a pretty dumbed down shooter compared to some of the competition. LoL is most played, but DoTA 2 has 300k average at any given time, HoN as 200k, so it really doesn't matter all 3 games are so high in population you should base it on QUALITY.I play both, but I play more League of legends (I have a couple thousand games of it put in).

Honestly I don't get threads like this, every MOBA ever made is the exact same thing and the exact same repetition. If you like DotA than there's no reason you wouldn't like LoL, HoN, SMITE, Blizzard Dota or Aeon of Strife for that matter.
Nope. LoL is incredible dumbed down and doesn't even have as good support systems. In Dota 2 you can pull guides straight into the game and it will change recommended shop items and tell you which level to get which skill. Also Dota 2 has the ability to watch tons of live games straight from the client. Also LoL has out of game factors that can affect you in game, not good for balance.
Thats like saying "If you like Battlefield you will automatically like CoD" just because they are the same genre, what a load of bull.Honestly I don't get threads like this, every MOBA ever made is the exact same thing and the exact same repetition. No, it's not; not by a longshot. You play on 1 map which is exactly the same in every MOBA and core gameplay mechanics are no different aside from a slight difference in skill. Don't mention LoL's other maps, they pale in comparison to Summoner's Rift.

Yea still not buying it... same map means nothing. Chess and Checkers use the same board style amongst other things .... doesn't mean you will like both. I don't like lol, its core mechanics are slugish, unbalance and too rock-paper scissors, its also alot less action packed and each hero is too alike. HoN and DoTA are similar yes because HoN was meant to be a kind of Dota Successor .... but in reality its game pace is pretty damn different and has other modes now. LoLs map is in no way the same as the other 2.... hell even HoN has changed it abit.Right now, the only MOBA I play is Dota 2, but my friends keep telling me to play League of Legends (it seems to be far more popular). Try it, it's free so you have nothing to lose.
[QUOTE="Miroku32"]Now, why would they rotate a rooster each week? He means they rotate the free champions every week. There 113 playable champions/heroes, and every week 10 different ones are randomly chosen to be the "everyone can play these" so you can try the different champions. After 3-10 games you'll earn enough points (more points for a win) to unlock a champion so you'll always have it. Most people just look at the colors and art style of LoL and laugh calling it some "noob friendly kids game". Yet the world champions are larger than DOTA2's, and it has a bigger player base, AKA it's more popular. You'll find LoL to be a little different than DOTA 2, as the runes and masteries system allows for way more customization of each champion. DOTA 2 forces you to pick a champion and play that champion one specific way, where as with LoL you can be a tanky ranged dps (with the right runes/masteries) or turn a support character into more of a carry. Gamespot is full of LoL haters and DOTA fanboys though, your best bet would be to give it a shot. It is still free :Peach week the free rooster is rotated.

Beyond the buff creeps and tall grass there are 3 lanes in every single one of them. Balance is always gonna be an issue when you have 100+ chars with loosely defined roles. I have played DotA 1 first and I still find it the best, mostly because I played that first; I'm pretty sure it would be different if I played any of the aforementioned games first.
For me, LOL is dota without the waiting and pausing for players to pick up all the time. I normally do 2x more games in LOL, due to not having to wait for players etc. as I do in Dota.
When you played ranked LOL, you start moving up/down in divisions, and will meet players at your own skill level - so you will get challenged rather quickly.
In LOL, you also have an "account" that you customize with extra ingame "skills", for instance a "get out of combat" skill or a heal. Besides the extra skills, you also customize a "talent tree" as well as an "item tree" - which you can specialize in different ways, for instance magic damage.
I played Dota when it was a map in WC3, and played Dota 2 as well as Heroes Of Newerth and I think LOL is the overall best game of the 4. The reason I like LOL the most is because it's:
Faster, more fluid, action oriented, player skill oriented (skill shots from characters change the game), customization with ingame effect, noob friendly characters as well as skill shot based characters.

1) HoN is by FAR the fastest paced of the 4.... its not even close ... I can't grasp how you came to that conclusion.... maybe because LoL's map is smaller you get to people faster or something? thats about as credible as it gets.
2) Player Skill Orientated????? ASHES friggin arrow is much bigger than Miranas as a quick example they are about equal in the department .... infact skill shots can be more devastating on HoN/DoTA again its like if ive entered a vortex where a LoL fan warps the reality around him.
3) Custimization with in-game effect is a BAD thing ..... it disturbs character balance, ultimately its just an excuse to keep you grinding ..... and the trade off is that the ingame earned items as you played are alot less varied and have less effects than the compeitiont.
Things like having friggin blink on every character is just dumb .....

What does that have to do with what I said? faster paced GAMEPLAY. And you are overexagurating, though I will graciously accept that LoL's recent community feature is beating the competition. I never wait more than 2 minutes for a match on either DoTA 2 or HoN, sometimes both are instant, a pretty similar story to LoL.... LoL is played more, but HoN has 150k average at any given time and DoTA 2 has 300k at any given time, this is FARRRRR more than enough to make population comparisons nothing more than a penis size contest .... Both penalize for leaves ... and good people in HoN will be in the premium pool where leavers can't even join.

Well personally I have 9 hours played on Dota 2... Of those 9 hours, I don't remember one single game that (pick one):
1) Didn't have a 10 year old queuing mic 100 % up-time singing/talking/making noise (inb4 turn chat off) (also in this case, kid can equate to someone from EU as well despite me playing in NA match-making).
2) Didn't have someone leave.
3) Didn't have someone get uncompetitively farmed out/fed because someone left and then runs around one shotting people.
At least in League when things go to sh-t you can surrender at 20 minutes. And its a lot more fun/a lot less time consuming than Dota 2, especially in games when you are losing.
Dota 2 is also far more clunky... I mean... Look at some of the Champions... Instead of one ability that has variable ranges between its min and max that you can select with a click, you have 3 separate abilities all with a set and unchanging range AND no HUD to display where it will even land. I remember my first game on Dota 2... I picked a champion with 6 abilities (3 of them all the same just different ranges)... Being a new player, I didn't know which way was up... It said "Range 200, Range 400, Range 600" or something like that... OK......... What is 200 units? I don't know because there is no HUD indication of where this ability will land... There is no HUD indication of how large an area it effects... There is nothing... I am simply supposed to go into a fight and activate it and hope it hits whatever is in front of me by guessing. I don't know about you, but I play games for fun; that isn't fun.

1) gameplay wise I would say it's about the same, the ranked matches usually starts out with invasion/defending jungles etc. But if you take the waiting time for getting a game going into consideration, lol is the fastest in my experience.
2) The size of Ashe's arrow, was not what I meant with player skill oriented - just the fact, that some skills needs to be aimed by the player, which means, that a good player will hit with a skill shot based skill more often than an unskilled player - not to say there is no skill shots in dota, dota 2 or hon.
3) imo the customization leads to a much wider range of character builds and strategies, which is good in my book. This way - a ranked team can strategize on how to build their team, which adds another layer to the gameplay. It's not disturbing character balance per say, as everyone have/can get access to the customization - the only difference being, how "good" you are at mixing your summoner spells, talent tree and item tree, which means a well prepared team, with a good tactic/strategy, have a bigger chance of winning, than an unprepared team - ofc. if you don't like thinking too much about the game your playing, this could be seen as a con.

Competitive scenes are often dictated by popularity... I would watch Starcraft II , DoTA and HoN tournements over LoL's any day .... Some people watch Golf instead of real sports. Are you honestly suggesting that popularity doesn't mean more people like playing it? LoL has a bigger competitive scene, more players, more customization. Yes, HoN came first, and DOTA 2 is dark and dingy and offers almost the exact same thing as DOTA did. However if you're going to claim that repetitive remakes of games are somehow creative, or worth spending money on, i suggest you go play some COD. LoL builds on the genre DOTA created, and it's currently the most popular, you're just hating on it calling it a "noob friendly kids game". Perhaps you should play it, and remember that if you keep losing, you're going to end up with noobs thanks to matchmaking. Please Log In to post.
