I bought starcraft about a year back and thought it was really fun, in the light that SC2 is coming out when ever i decided to buy another stratagy game, is WC3 a good choice of one? I am not that into grand stratagy games but more like mission based ones like starcraft.

Warcraft 3 plays VERY differently from Starcraft. I couldn't say you'd like WC3 simply because you liked Starcraft. That's not to say you wouldn't like it, they're just completely different games :P

They are similar but play radically different. I would give it a try, though.

Starcraft and WC3 do play very differently. WC3 is more about micromanagement - small groups of troops lead by a hero. But it does have the whole story like SC had, so you'll probably like that. But theres a lot more skill management, especially with the heroes (they threw in some rpg elements with the heroes). If you don't want that, you could always go get Warcraft 2 - that was a lot more like starcraft.

Another option is Lord of the Rings - those stratgey games are pretty decent, though they play differently than starcraft - with those, its more about huge army and hero management and very little resource management.

Cool sig pic musicalmac - Marathon was awesome! One of the best FPSs ever....

I'm quite confident you'd like WC3 even if you didn't like StarCraft. It's an amazing game but you really get the most out of it when you also purchase the expansion pack. Battle.Net games kill hours of my day.

WarCraft 3 is similar to StarCraft in many respects, but it also includes heroes and some psuedo-RPG elements. I'd be willing to bet that if you enjoyed StarCraft you will also like WarCraft 3.

It's all about personal taste but I would give it a try if I were you.

Nooooo. Probably you will enjoy it. Every game Blizzard makes is pretty much golden anyway, but those games are very different from each other. There are many superficial similarities, and you can clearly see that Wacraft 3 borrowed a lot of concepts from Starcraft, but Warcraft 3 is a lot more about micromanaging your units effectively, and Warcraft 3 consequently has a lot less units to control generally. Warcraft 3 with its hero units that gain experience pushes you towards fighting early and fighting often (as there are easy to kill NPCs to fight on most maps), which was a deliberate design decision. Starcraft was a lot more about expanding and effectively defending your bases and various other things that are kind of hard to describe. Things like cloaking also play a huge role in Starcraft and can easily make or break some games for you.

Warcraft 3, even among average players, often comes down to who controls their units better in combat. While that is certainly true in Starcraft among some of the really good players, it's really not as big a factor in that game generally.
