Would I need to order cables?

I'm going through their computer hardware menu and choosing parts from every category (cpu, psu, motherboard, etc, etc) but I'm wondering if all my parts will come with their respectful cables or if I will need to order them individually. If the latter, then I have no clue what I need....

all the cables will be supplied, the majority with the PSU. Make sure the PSU has the right connections andenough cables for the video card(s), and if you are going crossfire make sure one of the cards comes with a crossfire bridge.

ok how does this look. I'm just now trying to make sense of what hardware will be compatible withi what. I know so much that you want a mobo that will work with your cpu and a psu that will fit in your case and parts that will stillleave room for SLI but I dont know the really techincal bits so I probably have some imcompatible stuff in there. Such as two different cd/dvd drives. One is a burner so I got another because I dont know if the burner can acutally play cd/dvds. I also don't know if I need a flash memory card reader so that usb ports will work.

You specified a mouse pad but not a mouse. Also i haven't heard of that mouse pad vendor so i wouldn't trust it. For a mouse look for a Razer or Logitech and for a pad try QPad, Razer, Roccat or Steelseries.

I have a good mouse. I'll check for other mouse pads. What about the rest of my selection? Anything there a skilled and knowledgeable hardware guy would frown upon?

you are cutting it close with that PSU for SLI, I would try and get a Corsair 750TX. The 750TX has better connections also.

Jeez. I think you should look over your parts again, you're spending an insane amount on parts that aren't needed.

1. You should honestly be able to find a cheaper MOBO that supports the i7/DDR3 if that's the road you definitely want to go.

2. You really only need 1 CD/DVD drive. So I'd cut one of those out.

3. Antec Earthwatts PSUs are cheaper than the one you have listed and you can have a 650W instead. You may want a little more power if you decide to do SLI and to help support that i7.

4. You don't need the card reader. Your case has USBs and a plug will be provided to plug the USBs on your case into your MOBO. Your MOBO will also have USBs on the backside.

5. I'd look harder for a cheaper keyboard. I have never noticed much a difference between the standard Logitech I'm using now and the labeled "gaming keyboards"

6. Don't buy a mouse pad. Go to your local electronics store and buy the cheapest one they have.

7. I guess if you really want Vista Ultimate go for the system builders package/OEM. You have the retail version listed which is higher priced because of prettier packaging. Honestly, I have Vista home premium. Does everything I need to it to and most people need, plus it only runs $139.99 for you Canadian guys. ($99.99 for the US :) )

I don't think you need 2 CD/DVD drives. Unless you want to copy discs blazingly...Plus the second DVD drive is IDE, I'd recommend SATA.

Get rid of the card reader, it's pointless these days as everything works on USB (USB sockets are provided on your motherboard).

What's with the 2 DVD drives? I only have one and manage perfectly well....

Better power supply It costs a bit more but it's very reliable and you get more watts and amps

I personally wouldn't go for Vista Ultimate. Right now you can run Windows 7 RC1 free for a year, and after that, you can upgrade to the full version - Ultimate or shatever it's equivalent will be.

I agree with the consensus about the PSU and unless you really need all the bells and whistles of Vista Ultimate get Home Premiun x64. I don't see a problem getting the card reader or mouse pad they aren't expensive and if you want them no biggie. However I wouldn't get a 250 gig HD when 1TBs aren't that much more expensive. It's been my experiance that the more HD space the better. When I built mine last year I wish I'd gone with a bigger HD.

Oh and just a side note DVD drives aren't that expensive either so if you want 2 get em. But I'm not sure I understand why you not going sata on both.

RAM: that speed is not listed in the motherboard specs. The listed speeds are DDR3 2000+/1333/1066/800. It may still work, I'm not sure. HDD: Raptors are a waste in my experience. I'd get a couple of 500GB or 1TB 7,200 rpm drives instead. Optical: I always have two optical drives: one writer and one ROM. It allows for disc-to-disc copying, but the bigger reason is the ROM usually has faster read speeds and is the workhorse drive. The writer just burns discs and that's all. Both should be SATA. PSU: I'd get more power if you're going to SLI. I went for 1kW, but 750W is probably enough. Card Reader: not required for USB, get it only if you need the SD card slots for your camera or something. Monitors: duals are cool, used them myself for years. With this rig though I'd consider getting a 24" @ 1920 x 1200. OS: Get the OEM version, much cheaper.

Better video card, only a little more expensive.

Also, so that you understand the way they are pricing these video cards: They show up in the cart $50 cheaper. This is because they come with Call of Duty: WaW "free". What Newegg is doing to accomplish this is subtracting $50 from the price of the video card and charging you the full $50 for the game. So, in reality, you are paying full price for the video card, but getting the game free.

Also, the motherboard is good, but you'll only ever really be able to have 3 DIMMs (in triple-channel mode) installed. However, this shouldn't be a big deal since I doubt you'll need anymore than 6GB (3 x 2GB) anytime soon. Unless you plan to run AutoCAD or something. :P

Speaking of the RAM, why does everyone always pick that overpriced Dominator kit? Here you go, cheaper and better. Alternatively, this DDR3-1333 kit would be great as well.

Ok, so here's my updated selection. Thanks guys for your tips and stuff, very helpful. A few more questions though:

- How can I be certain my case will fit that PSU and an SLI config of my GPU's?
- Switching to Windows 7 wont be a big issue hardware wise will it? I don't want to discover I need to re-buy some $200+ piece of hardware after getting Win7
- Do I want the 64bit version of Vista? That's what I've selected.
- Someone recommended I get 1920x1200 res monitors for this set up. I had 1680x1050 originally but I think he's right, with this sort of rig I really need to go with 1920x1200. Thoughts? (What about 1920x1080?)
- I got rid of the 10,000rpm HD because I realize it's not really worth it unless I'm running RAID 0 and I don't think I want to bother. Would anyone really recommend it?
- 750wt PSU will handle my i7 and SLI GTX 260's?
- A couple of you mentioned something to do with my RAM and its compatibility with my MOBO selection. But I choose new RAM sticks. Is this mobo and ram good to go?
- Someone also mentioned that my MOBO doesn't say what speeds it has? Not sure what's being talked about there, but I'd like to cover everything.
- Can I plug a third monitor into my mobo? or is setting up three monitors done differently? (flight sims, and arma2!)

Ok, so let me know what you think now:

It is looking good, You should get a full tower like Antec 1200 or HAF 932(I don't remember, was it 942?) to be absolutely certain that it will fit in. The hardware requirements of 7 is identical to Vista, if you can run Vista, you can run 7. This is just a suggestion, but what you can do is drop Windows Vista and the GTX260, and get 2 HIS Hightech H489F1GP Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail and set them up in crossfire. They'll be awesome. 1920 x 1200 is a 16:10 resolution, your current monitors are 1920 x 1080. I prefer 16:10 because of the extra height. Your current hardware will shine on them. And if you plan on overclocking, you should get a CPU cooler.

the 750TX corsair will be plenty good enough for that setup. the 4890 Crossfire setup is a good mention they are great cards and would perform great. The GTX260 core 216 SLI is also a good choice for the price. The 4890 crossfire would probably give you better frames.

The monitors I've chosen are 1920x1200. I like that extra height also. I will look at some more cases that are slightly larger.

Hmm yes I've been looking at the video cards and I realize the GTX260 is actually a year old. I thinking the 275's or more but the prices rise so drastically its going to be hard. This HD4890 though is ATI which means I will need a different MOBO now...and if I choose a new mobo won't I need to re-choose alot of other parts? Or maybe I should go with a cheap video card and wait for the dx11's!! Ahhhh its so hard to shop for computers...!!

you can't crossfire with that board? I would definetly chosse a X58board that give the option to crossfire and SLI. You res is pretty high, to max games you probably need a dual card setup. But what I would do is get a single 4890, and wait for the next round to be offered. And get a board that supports Crossfire and SLI. My MSIx58 platinum will crossfire and SLI, it didn't at first but they updated it. If needed I would just play at a lower res on that monitoruntil the new cards come out. There is an option in ATI CCC that lowers the res without loosing the clarity. It gives the same look, just a little smaller.

In my experience you may not need dual monitors if you go with the 24" @ 1920 x 1200. I used to have dual 19" @ 1280 x 1024 and moved up to a single 24" @ 1920 x 1200. I thought for sure I'd miss my second screen, but the 24" has so much screen space that it's very easy to have a couple of windows open on the screen at the same time: one on the left half and one on the right half. In actuality, programs like MS Word and websites like Gamespot waste half the screen with gray, blank space anyway so if you restore down the window and position and stretch it to fit half the screen they look just fine. Also, I believe Windows 7 will have some additional windows functions that will automatically fit a window to half the screen to take advantage of high-res, widescreen monitors. I would go with a single monitor for now to save some cash and you can always get a second one later if you decide you really want it, but that's up to you obviously.

ah ok I was wrong it is crossfire ready, infact the reviews say it isnt SLI but crossfire! One guy says you need to flash the mobo to make it SLI capable. Is that a big deal to achieve? Also if the last set of questions I posted could be answered I would much appreciate it! (some have been somewhat in the last couple posts)
@gigatrainer - when you said to drop the GTX260's for the Raedon why did you say drop vista as well? do you mean run of the windows 7 RC until its released?

@bane_v2. Now that you say that I'm thinking I should get one. thus allowing me to choose a higher end video card. Thing is I wanted two montiors because I do alot of work in Adobe's creative suit and wanted to make use of the dual monitor features in games such as Supreme Commander. I even am thinking of getting three becuase I'm a huge fligh sim player and would love it for ArmA2.

Single 24in at 1920x1200 or a couple/three smaller ones....

and if anyone can help answer these outstanding questions

- Do I want the 64bit version of Vista? That's what I've selected.
- Is a second and third monitor something done based on the plugs in the back of the mobo? Is my mobo capable of that?

ah ok I was wrong it is crossfire ready, infact the reviews say it isnt SLI but crossfire!

Dual monitors are nice, but largely unnecessary expense. One 24" 1920x1200 should be plenty for most people.

Yes, you want 64-bit Vista, the one you selected is perfect.

Don't worry about the RAM or motherboard, both that are currently selected are compatible. Both are great choices.

They were referring to the speed of RAM the motherboard supports, don't worry about it, you're fine as-is.

Multiple monitors are driven by the graphics card(s).

As for the video card selection, if you can afford it then do as others suggested and go for two 4890s. Go for whichever would best fit your budget. Alternatively, if you want to save some money, you could just get one 4890 now and then crossfire at a later date.

flashing the BIOSshould be an easy process, I did it once and I just had to put a disk in the DVD drive that came with the product, then go to the manufacture website, then do a couple mouse clicks and that was it. The manufacture will be able to explain it on their website probably. For me the whole process took under 10 minutes.

At your questions, what I'm saying is drop Vista and get 7 RC 64 bit, its pretty good and stable. Minor glitches but nothing major. Also I'd too recommend getting one 24" monitor, you can always get another if you wish too. Your motherboard supports SLI and CrossfireX. Your Ram is good to go, its supported by your motherboard. Your monitors are plugged into the ports that come out of your graphics card.

For your first build its always a good idea to go with just the BASICS as far as what you need:

Case

GPU

PSU

CPU

RAM

Monitor

Keyboard/Mouse

Speakers

HD

Cd/DVD Rom

You can add extra things like another monitor after you have everything stable and set up.

If you already have a monitor or two you can use those along with the new 24". They don't have to be the same size or the same resolution.

Ok, chosing a monitor is by far the hardest thing ever. Just seeing a couple bad reviews about colors and contrast and dead pxiels throws me off so much....anway...here's what I've got now. Major difference is I've now got the dual 4890's as recommended. I've got a single 24 in screen. And I chose a slighty better (im assuming) and more expensive mobo which comes with a combo deal of6 gigs or ram so I've now taken off the Gskill. Oh and a new full tower case as im slightly paranoid about fitting the crossfire and psu inside.

Any more thoughts let me know! Oh yea will this computer come with sound? I can't find anywhere to buy sound cards on newegg

Don't worry about reading bad reviews on Newegg about parts. There are hundreds if not thousands of people with those parts that have nothing wrong with them. I have a 22" AOC monitor that only ever had bad reviews on any site I looked at. I took the plunge and bought it and the damn thing is great.

Dead pixels and things like that happen every once in a while, but not as often as reviews on Newegg make it seem.
