I never though i'd say this but i need a good MMO to play... here i'll explain

so i have this thing, where when i quit an MMO, i get the like post-MMO depression. wheras you feel as if you need to do something with your spare time and get all annoyed that you got bored of the MMO and the i just get desperate to play one...

i always thought there were TONS of MMo's out there and i could just keep hopping for as long as needed

but i have come to my end, heres a timeline of my MMO history

My first MMO and the one i played the longest, ironically, it was Runescape, i still look back on it and don't think it was stupid or anything, it was just i had played it for a whole 3 years, then one summer, i was getting older and there was more stuff to do on my own with freinds and such, so me and my buddy who played this game decided to quit and get back into it later,

but after that summer, it had just lost it's charm, then i came across, Maplestory, which i played for a little over a year, and by that time i finally realized how hollow the combat and strategy of the game was, if you have played it, you will know what i mean, so i quit that

then i went to Guild Wars, i know a lot of poeple liked that game, but just not for me, combat seemed too chaotic, and when want an MMO, i like it traditional, losts of training, not to discredit GW, it just truly wasn't for me

later, i tried playing FFXI Online, i played for a while with high hopes, but the game itself seemed so clumsy and not built to last, pallette swap equips and enemies, no soundtrack, not a great skill system, and once again if you have played and quit you might catch my drift, good class/job system, but the difficult and cumbersomeness (sp?) of the game just ruined it

and my latest debut, World of Warcraft, went into the game with mixed expectations, some very low and some high, hard to explain, but anyway, i started playing and played for about a week very consistently the game's skill system is pretty good, along with countless things to do, but heres what killed it for me

the aesthtics of the game itself, just from all of RPGs and MMORPGs i have played i have never come across a game where your characetr has to look so... hideous.... i tried making a human and could not for the life of me make him look young or "cool" (i've played a lot of JRPG's and final fantasies) i think it's juts blizzard's artistic taste from what i've seem through there other games, either way i did not like it

somewhere in there i tried LOTRO, but didn't like that either, same problem i had with WOW was here too, not to mention the armor in LOTRO looks like pajamas for the first who knows how many levels (i played for a while)

so does anyone have a suggestion of something that i haven't heard of? (well, something with a community still intact) any upcoming games that look good?

please i really need something....

I have the game for you. It's F2p, so it won't cost you anything to try it (except for a little of your time). Runes of Magic is probably the best f2p out there, and honestly I am enjoying it more than WoW - I played WoW for 2.5 years so I would know. Really just check it out. Runes of Magic has been consuming my time to where its unhealthy. Just remember that it's not like any other f2p out there. I've played lots, and this is on a completely different level. plus it's still in the final stages of open beta! Release date is March 19

Limited classes lol?

Try blood elves or draenei. Females also tends to look better.

Every once in a while when I get on game spot I look at the front page and there will be random pictures of random games, there will be like three games featured on the front or something and I may just take a look at them. If you happen to see those three images of games, click on them, you might be surprised as to what they are.

I actually found some MMO's on there before. There was some French MMO called Dofus I think; it looked really interesting and I would have liked to play it but I'm currently wrapped up in three other games.

Whenever, I see one of these games, I just put it on my tracked games list. Just recently I saw something for a game called "Angels Online". I really have no idea what it is, but it looks sorta neat. There is also this other game called "Zu Online". It looks cool too, and I have no idea how to actually get that one either.

Whenever you see one of these games, while you are looking at it be sure to look at the tab on the right where it says "Games you may like..." That is a great resource and sometimes points you to titles you may have never known about.

My personal experience with MMO's is Guild Wars and Knights Online. I liked both a lot, but I can definitely understand what you mean about Guild Wars-it gets pretty chaotic.

Stepping over to the PSP; there are MMO's on that. I like my PSP and play it a lot, but not really for MMO's, but while looking at games on it I've seen that there are some. Maybe you should check out that system if you haven't already?

Also, try doing research into other games. You say you want an MMO, but do you really? Maybe try playing some other single player RPG. Try those out. I'm sure if you enjoy MMORPGs there are some RPGS you may like.

Main idea here is to do some research. Regardless of what MMO you play, you dedicate a lot of time to it usually. Try my strategies to find some interesting games you may like. If you don't find something just through a general search, maybe ask other players you played with in the MMO's you liked and see what they are playing. They may have the same tastes as you.

Hope this helped.

How about "NO"? I'd suggest either Age Of Conan, as it's the only MMO with any sort of originality, or NO MMO's!

Thoughtful post . . there's a lot here.

First, know that all I really play is MMOs. I like the social interaction . . . if that wasn't my primary concern, hey, I'd just play single-player games, wouldn't I?

MMOs are haaaaaaaaaaaaaaard to make, which is why there aren't a lot of good ones. And there's lots of disasters, unfortunately, like Age of Conan. If you can come out with the next big WoW, the payoff is tremendous . . but so is the massive years-long investment in time, personnel and money. Few can pull it off consistently - even the big ones, like Sony.

Which is why I looked around one day (recently, like middle of last year), and discovered that nobody was really announcing the next big MMO title. I got so I thought the next big MMO was just around the corner - not! - companies are not rolling them out like they used to. That won't change until it's possible to create an MMO a lot quicker and easier - that'll be years away.

Best MMO I ever played was EQII, and I'll go back to it as soon as I get my new job pretty much mastered. Tremendous endgame content, visuals, music, mood, and best of all close social interaction is easily facilitated in this game. You'll make friends here, and there's enough here to keep you going for years and years. Players will often express disdain for it, but can't really give you solid reasons why, and it didn't help that Gamespot's own reviews and ratings pretty much bashed it, but I think it's the best there is today and I've played 'em all.

I'm *much* happier with WoW, btw, now that they've rolled out new, much better-looking races when Burning Crusade came out. But it's still a social and societal grade school, unfortunately, and the graphics are better but still cartoon-y.

Big post, I like it.. though some info was still missing so I can't give exact recommendation.

Played WoW myself for a year and got to 80 and all. Looks nice, but the character development is a bit too hollow, especially with that amount of people. Not enough usable gear at high levels. Pretty much there's only one way to spec and gear in order to be good. If I'm playing MMO I want to be unique.

Someone mentioned Dofus up there. Played it, was nice, but something was just missing. Also I don't think the developers are making it anymore. Think they're working on a new game right now, can't remember the name though.

Right now I'm playing Anarchy Online once more. Used to play it before WoW but I'm back again. It's old, still looks decent, definitely not good, but decent. There's some sort of graphics booster coming, maybe this year, but it's been announced a few times already and still it's not there. Also the market and prices are a bit screwed with the amount of money sellers nowadays. Actually when you think about it this game is screwed. Still, AO has the best and most detailed character development I've ever seen. Also the amount of usable gear and the details on guns and stuff. If only they'd take the item/character system and make a new game with them. Also the basic game is free, while the expansions cost and there's monthly fee for expansion players too. Even if you're not going to play it I highly recommend you to take a look at the character development options there.

Eagerly waiting for Fallout MMO myself. Dunno when it's released though,

You could try Ultima online on a freeshard;) Im playing currently and having a blast. But the game is for hardcore people lol:P The graphics arent great but its the mmo that started it all! Yes before the first EQ (EQ was the first 3d mmo). The game itselft is 13-14 (maybe more?) years old but by far the best mmo ive played hands down! Ive played WoW, LOTRO, AoC, a bit of Vanguard and UO trumps those games easily!

There are no levels, the game uses a skill system.

Your character can look 100% unique from everyone else and still easy to make look cool!

housing system

corpse looting (yes people can kill you and take all your stuff or you can do the same to them!)

You can be a theif and and steal stuff from other peoples inventories

There is always something to do

! Factions you can join to have faction wars, or your guild can be at war with other guilds! or just FFA pvp! Whatever you want to do!

Oooh the game is VERY challenging too, as you have read. Those are a few of the sweet aspects from it. I will say this, this game is NOT for carebears!

dude the fact that the races define what professions are available (unlike say FFXI where u get the full list regardless of racial belonging) is rather confining. what if i want to be a a gnome paladin i cant or how about a blood elf druid. this is but a small sampleing fo how limiting it is.

imo try warhammer online if u dont like that try some more free MMO's clealry nothing in the industry can mend what ails you (at least in mainstream) mmo's arent for everyone.

Eve Online couldn't rock more. It isn't for everyone - it's European and kinda quirky. For instance, you almost never see your own body - you're always running around in your spacecraft instead.

But it's deep, complex, with rich content, and it's stark raving beautiful to look at. You're constantly hanging on the agonizing cliff of a crucial decision to which there is no easy answer. And best of all, it's got the best PvP in gaming, hands down. Nothing else can touch it.

The downside is that there's a balance issue in the engame. If you aren't one of the top 5% in the game, you'll virtually never get there - or at least it will take you yeeeeeeeeeeeeears.

If you want something F2P and social, and don't mind the cute cell-shaded graphics, Dream of Mirror Online isn't too bad. Only downside is the repetitive grinding to level, and there's basically nothing to do at the level cap, so leveling is kinda pointless anyways. You can freely switch between all the different classes in the game on one character, subclasses, and all that.

Personally though, I'd stay with Warcraft for gameplay and content. I'd just reroll a Blood Elf or Draenei if you don't like the other character models. I never minded them much, I'm perfectly happy with my female tauren :P /moo
