I wanted to make sure that I got the game correctly. I perfer playing the game in order. I've played half life 2 episode 1 (i think) and now I want to buy half life 2 episode 2. I'm fairly positive that I've played episode 1, but when I read wikipedia's storyline of it, it doesn't seem to match the game i've played.

The half life 2 episode 1 game ive played starts with Gorden on a train to city 17 and ends with the citidel's reactor exploding, with alyx freezing in time and the G man appearin.

Is that half life 2 episode 1? am I safe to buy half life 2 episode 2 now? or am i missing something?

The game you played was Half-Life 2. Not Half-Life 2 Episode 1. So now if you want to go in order, play Episode 1 and the Episode 2.

No, you played Half-Life 2. Half-Life 2: Episode One was an expansion pack, that continued the storyline after Half-Life 2, and Episode Two is the second expansion, and continues the storyline after Episode One. Its confusing, we know, Valve knows, they're sorry. They even admitted they should have just called it Half-Life 3: Episode One.

It's not an expansion pack, it's episodic content. If it were an expansion pack then you would need Half-Life 2 to play it, but you don't.

There are plenty of standalone expansions. It's pure semantics. The episodes are expansions.

I'd say play Episode One first. Then Portal and only then play Episode Two. Why not just get the orange box? So you get everything.

they really did a bad job naming it "Half Life 2 - episode #", its very confusing to people who have never played HL-2, I see these questions more and more on this board and a few others.
