So yeah, after FINALLY beating half-life 2 on hard, I was completely overwhelmed. Everyone online had complained about its extreme ease, where as for me it was undoubtedly one of if not the most difficult games ive ever played. Then I looked at a guide, and discovered you get health by breaking boxes...

..Yep..

..Really..

Lol fail.

My friend said it was pretty easy, he always replays fps' on the hardest difficulty. His most recent, which he claimed was sort of hard save for the slow motion, was FEAR 2.

Personally I hate replaying games unless I wait a while. Harder difficulty = you doing less damage and the enemies doing more to you. that's not fun or more challenging. They need to make more games that actually add smarter, numerous, more equipment using enemies ala Halo 3 and I might consider replaying games.

idiot? you're my hero! ;) seriously, there's a lot of ammo in those things too! but how could you not discover that? I'm pretty sure one of the npc's tells you this early in the game and you must have broken boxes accidentally.. also, did you not play half-life?

Yeah I mean I picked up the ammo, but only from boxes I had to break to get through doorways. I sorta figured they only planted the stuff in the ones you had to break to move forward =(..

... well, maybe not the brightest bulb in the pack right now ;), but getting through the game on hard without breaking any supply boxes is quite an accomplishment in itself. You don't need to feel bad about that dude, you should get a medal :)

Man I could not have done it without the boxes, especially at points where there are tons of them in one place meant to fully revitalize you and get you some more ammo. That's definently a difficult feat.

Dude, you have a crowbar! How were you not hitting everything just to see if it would break? Heck, I would whack stuff to play a tune.

Health and ammo was just a bonus.

I agree. The biggest thing to make shooters good for replay is to stop making them linear. If you made them open-ended, then enemies would pop-up in different places, loot and ammo containers would change.

With linear, new game = been there, done that. Open-ended ftw.

^ | QFT I can't even look at bioshock after playing it once. I remember bioshock claiming it was open ended before it came out lol "go anywhere in rapture!, it's not linear!".

then again I can't think of many shooters that aren't linear. Probably why I never play them on SP. Fallout 3 wasn't though, but it's kind of hard to call it a true shooter

With the physics in the game and how scenes just fall apart from grenades falling debris and rocket launchers I dont see how u managed to beat it on hard w/o finding items left behind from a smashed box. This is a troll thread, or some one who is half blind and as smart as a rock.

ROFL!!!

It's completely possible because I know it from my exactly same experience from dead space. But I didn't actually have to look at a walkthrough to find out that glowing boxes are here to help me. I assume you never played half life 1. Because it was full of boxes everywhere and I carried on with this habit on hl2. (I also killed all the scientists that weren't necessary with a single crowbar hit but I have no idea why I did it)

Actually, the publisher of Fallout 3 (Bethesda) says it is a RPG, like Mass Effect is also. Having firearms doesn't automatically = shooter, because FO3 & Mass Effect are open-ended with a huge storyline.

Also on the other side, RPG doesn't mean it's always swords & shields. That's just part of the RPG set (medieval).
