I'm awful at multiplayer fps.

Anybody else here feel the same way? I get owned so badly at them, but I keep coming back for more. I'm trying to play Bad Company 2 online right now, and I'm just plain terrible at them. I do get kills occasionally, though. It keeps me coming back for more as I said before. I maybe was a little better at Crysis, but the last game I played, I got 33 kills, and 100 deaths. Ouch!!! Anyway, I still enjoy playing, and try to remember that it's just a game. Anybody else besides me get owned badly?psx_warrior

I'm not very bad, but I know how you feel. Some games can be overwhelming in this sense, and I'm still glad in most games if I can maintain a 1:1 K/D ratio. I was really good at Wolfenstein Enemy Territory though, the only FPS I was persistent at. I played it for a few weekends and became best player of the match on a lot of occasions. That was years ago though, and I generally don't feel like getting into multiplayer anymore as I just don't find it very fun to play against people I don't know.

Some people has more talent with shooters, this is natural, but people that lacks natural skill can improve a lot with practice and a correct knowledge about the keys of the game.

The first rule in BC 2 is that to see a enemy before and surprise your target means the 40% of a potential frag. So, the first things that you must do is:

1-Learn the maps.

2-Understand were are the hot points and why.

3-Try to play avoiding predictable patterns, as show yourself running in straight line towards a M-COM in open areas.

Learning was easier in the old times when you could go to the cyber and saw people playing and ask about why they were playing in a kind of pattern and not in other, or to ask for advice.

I sucked for a long time. It's nothing but practice and having the right (not most expensive) peripherals.

I would recommend getting on Quake Live right now (it's still free). It's really fast-paced and should sharpen your reflexes in no time. Make sure you're balancing it with a slower-paced tactical shooter, though.

I'd also suggest getting an optical mouse for shooters because of the lag-free response and because the lower dpi is absolutely fine for FPS. I've heard that some players who take their FPS's really seriously still prefer CRT monitors because of the faster response time, but that's not something I can really confirm, because I love my extra desk space too much. :P

No one used hacks in the video, it was just a joke about hackers "Should not be used by anyone above the age of 12" etc.

I'd say you should play Red Orchestra if you want to be a "real" man. Having your bullets go where you want them is for wimps.

I feel an important thing about getting good at multi fps is to learn the maps inside out. Once you know where all the angles and can anticipate where enemies will be then you will start topping the leaderboards.
