Hey, I'm interested in buying a Mac (I know... Why a Mac) but I'm studying Media and Photography next year at college and I need something good for editing, this really isn't the right section for talking about this but.. Yeah

I intend on buying it during my trip to Canada in October because it's about £400 cheaper, I was wondering if there's going to be any problems with this as I live in the UK? Other than the charger not plugging in...

What he said.

You should reciously reconsider your decision, because you'll regret it later.

Not only can a PC run editing software normally, you can also play some games on it.

So instead of buying something expensive for editing only

You can buy something cheaper for editing and gaming

This is probably a better topic for the hardware forum to be honest. I don't know much about Macs myself, the only problems I can think of are power requirements and warranty support. The UK uses a different power current to Canada so chances are the Canadian Mac will need to have a EU power suppy unit. It is also possible that you won't get any after care warranty support for your Mac if you are in the UK.

I personally wouldn't do it myself you could spend an awful lot on your Mac from Canada and if it dies you will have to foot the bill for any repairs.

You know what TC? I approve of you buying a mac. Compared to the majority of junk laptops that I have gone through never once have i came across a mac that failed on me forcing me to send back to manufacturer or store. Especially with vista and xp the OS were never as steady as OSX (but win7 chagnged that) If your a student you do not want a virus or any problems that forces you toreformat or recover at a earlier time losing all your data. Macs are also very fast and not bloated down by all the extra programs companies have already installed on oyur laptop. I say that extra 300 dollars you may spend is worth it if it gives you a peace of mind. Of course you can work out all these problems, but honestly I feel if im already paying so much money I shouldn't have too. Also apple care is the best

As you've mentioned, viruses are no longer a problem, except if you're loading "lady gaga naked.exe". On win platform, you actually have some programs to install on. About customer support, don't care a bit, never had problems with pc. But in the end it really boils down to what makes you fell best.

i saw a behind the scenes thing with WETA studios and they were all using Macs....... guess that kinda shoots your theory out of the water... but seriously, dont buy a mac. you can get twice the computer in a PC for less money.

Concerning power, its a laptop. Its designed to be taken to different countries and use different power. You ar just going to need a converter that changes the shape of the pins that you plug into the wall socket.

I love my Mac :(

Then again, I didn't pay for it. I was able to write it off. I've enjoyed it more than any other laptop. I have OS X and Vista SP2 on here, and I am really enjoying it. However, when it comes to editing, I've only noticed a few differences.

- Photoshop is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, MUCH faster.

- iTunes is more cohesive as a program.

- After Effects can work with more formats once you've downloaded Perian (a Quicktime plug-in for Macs only).

- Real simple interface.

Also, honestly, the best IM service I've ever used is only available on Macs, Adium. That program is the endall of multi-protocol IM programs. If you already have a desktop for gaming, then I see no reason to not get a Mac if you like the way it looks. I would spend some time at a demo booth or something though to see what you think of the OS X, that way you don't end up hating an OS you paid a lot of money for.

Once upon a time it was true that MAC >>> Windows for movie / sound editing.

However that have not been true for a few years. They are about the same now days...

Only thing is that MAC is more expensive and have less programs that work for it.

It depends on what you really need. If you need a stable computer for work or University I think that the best purchase is a Mac, they are stable, their performance is great, you receive a great bunch of tools for editing and other stuff, and even if the price is higher you pay for what you receive.

When I play I play on a PC but when I do really serious stuff (editing, work ecc.) I use a mac, they never cancelled anything and never had problems with drivers, updates, crashes.

One thing you can do is have bootcamp, so you have a mac os x and windows on your mac, some people also install Ubuntu on their macs...

Quite frankly I'm not sure why anyone would waste their money on a Mac.

Less everything for your money.

And even though the title of the forum is "PC and Mac Games" you picked the wrong place to talk about a Mac. It's kind of like a Republican walking into the Democratic National Convention and yelling "Ronald Reagan was the best presdient ever!" Except you're not trying to annoy anyone. So maybe that analogy doesn't actually work...oh well

There is no point in telling you that macs are a waste of money because you won't listen to us anyways. You probably already bought the mac and just want to start an argument.

Off-topic, but I think most democrats liked Reagan as well.

On-topic, don't get a Mac. PCs can do everything and more.
