i have been wanting to get a new tv for a long time and i am finally getting around to doing it. my only problem is that i barely know anything about them. Basically my price range is about $200-$400, and from 26" to 32". What are some good brands/companies i should look at? what kind of tvs will look good with my Xbox 360? And in an unrelated type question, should i consider getting a blu-ray player? i have heard many things about them that they are worth getting and not worth getting, what do you think of them and are they worth getting?

At that price and size range look at Samsung, Panasonic, and Sony LCD's. You should be able to get a 32" on sale for under $400. At that size, Blu-ray will not add much to your experience. I'd rather see you spend the extra $150-200 on the TV and get a 42" Panasonic or Samsung plasma.

so would a blu-ray player be good for a 42" LG Plasma? i think thats the one i'm getting its just a tiny bit out of my price range but the sale on it is well worth it. also, are plasmas better than LCDs?

Blu-Ray may be worth it for a smaller TV as long as you sit close enough to see the difference in resolution (of course "worth it" means different things to different people). I prefer plasmas to LCD because of their superior contrast, lack of motion blur, and wide viewing angle. In a very bright room though, LCD's brightness and lack of glare on some sets can be a real plus that can offset some of its shortcomings. Also, some of the more expensive pixel LED back-lit based LCD's can be very good although they often cost much more than plasma.

i have a 32 inch sharp aquos lcd. works fine for me and it cost around $500 and i adjusted the settings specifically for gaming which made it looks a lot better. if you want something less expensive, you can purchase an lcd computer screen with a built in hd input that supprts full 1080p res. HP has some good ones like the HP w2338h, look it up, its costs about $150
