I am buying this OS off eBay, it's original with a certificate, I will use it to do a clear install on my PC, is it good?

7 is better in pretty much every way. I would reconsider if I was you.

Microsoft says they are going to stop releasing large updates for Windows XP. You'll be fine for a while but the updates for it will start to gradually disappear over the course of the next year.

What??, XP was one of the worst OS's ever. It was basically crap until SP2. That is why XP was around so much longer than any other Windows, they had to spend YEARS fixing problems. I will be so glad when I get rid of XP. I wanted Vista for the longest time, now I want 7. I am running 7, but only the RC. Trust me Vista and Win7 both stomp all over XP.

Resource hog? It doesn't use very much resources at all. They install it on netbooks and low powered laptops and it runs great.

i dont know, but my 2Gb of RAM is holding me from getting 7. also i feel if i got 7, it would consume much of my CPU, GPU and RAM, and gaming wont be the same. when i say CPU,GPU, i mean the new ones im getting tomorrow.

Put it on a computer that's not x86... oh wait.

Even if we are talking about x86, there are a lot of OS's' that can be considered superior.

a combination of the two. i know that 7 idle with something like 800Mb of RAM. thats like half of the RAM i have will go to the OS.

eh for me, I still like XP over Win7 and Vista. Some of it is because I always get weird performance drops randomly(some days its good, some days its just bad even though nothing new installed, always fresh reboot).

With that said though, I have nothing major against them. Just for me I'd rather be using XP especially since I have my custom theme I like, custom folder styles, custom registry edits/ad blocker using registry(sure there is one in vista/W7, havent really looked), etc. So basically for me XP is better as my personal preference.

Except it shrinks when you need it.

What CPU+GPU did you go with in the end ALI? Also, people have got windows 7 running nicely on P4 and 1GB RAM. Trust me it isn't the hog you think. It is very efficient. Startup and shutdown times are improved. User interface great. With your 23" monitor, dragging each window to take up half the screen in windows 7 will be perfect.
