My current computer specs are : i7 920 processor, ati 4870 512mb, 3gb of ram and windows vista 32bit.

Ive been meaning to upgrade to windows 7 64 bit for a while and i decided now was the time! Obviously with this upgrade im going to get a new set of ram, probably 6 or 12 gb, since ram is now so cheap.

Ive also decided to get a new video card (this is where i need your help) as my monitor has a native resolution of 1920x1080. Since my video card only has 512mb of memory, i tend to get some performance issues at such an high resolution. I've been away from the computer hardware market for quite a while so i dont know what the newest video cards are like.

Basically, heres what im looking for :

-at least 1gb of memory

-mid-high range (200-300$)

-overclocking is a plus, but I'm not really into that (might try it later on)

-Don't tell me to crossfire, i had another 4870 and it crapped on me and, while the performance was good when it worked, the amount of issues i got isn't worth it.

Also, im not sure if theres another generation of video cards thats coming really soon, if thats the case, i wouldnt mind waiting a bit more to upgrade (1 month?)

Thank you!

The above two suggestions are pretty much the only answers; Now you just need to figure out if you want nVidia or AMD.

EDIT: Unless you're doing something beyond gaming, upgrading your ram seems like a waste of money.

I agree with both gmaster and Liam, especially since the 6950 can be flashed to a 6970. Then, all you need to do is get a marker pen and change the '50' to '70'

Pilot have some of the best pens around, for a very decent price ;)

Oh yes, I forgot about about that. Assuming they can still be flashed, 6950 would be the way to go.

You mean you would just hold on to my 4870 for more time? The problem i have with this card is its lack of memory, which causes me problem at higher resolutions As of now im kind of leaning towards the 6950. Its cheaper than the 570 and their performance seem very similar. The 460 is a generation old, and id rather have a newer card. Thank you all for the help btw

GTX 460, even though it may seem a generation behind it's the best 400 series design, anything below is slower than your 4870, 5850 if you are going with ati, make sure GPU is 256 bit at least with 1GB memory and has a highest core clock you can get. 8GB RAM 800 mhz dual channel is enough.
