You can't go wrong with Starcraft. Arguably the best RTS ever made. And it's only $20 and the community is still thriving.

It's amazing the game stood this long.

50 years from now, Starcraft will still be played while Supreme Commander will probably be forgotten. That's how good Starcraft is. It's like the Super Mario Bros. 3 of RTSs.

starcraft has limited resources on each map whereas supcom has huge maps with limitless resources, so if you can manage your economy well (harder than it sounds) you can have masses of navel, land and air units going at it. plus some pretty impressive experimental units. SC is easier to run though so it comes down to the quality of computers and which kind of map you prefer (limited resources or infinite)

Starcraft hands down.gozalo

Well strangely enough, a few years ago I would have said that without hesitation.
I used to play Starcraft a LOT (and I mean A "LAWT") with a dude that lives just a few houses away, we'd rush home every day to fire up some 2 player or LAN games here and just play play play for a few years on end. And Starcraft was definatly one of the most played games at our house. :P

However, I hadn't played Starcraft for a while now, but the guy's brother was having a LAN at their place, and both of us were invited. So we're there, we thought it would be most wise to fire up a bit of Starcraft for old times sake. My dissappointment was great as I noticed that is was actually pretty damn boring. Even LOOKING at the 2 other guys playing SupCom next to me was far more exciting.

Starcraft, as great as it once was, has now become bland. It's the way it goes.
At least we can say that the RTS genre has improved over the years.
