Hey, I bought the OCZ GameXStream 700 Watt PSU from tigerdirect a few weeks back to get ready for my new system build. I plan on putting a Q6600 and 8800GT in the build. Would this PSU be able to power these ok? (Please say yes :) )

Yes, it will power those..theres not much it won't power. Before you buy things in the future though be sure your PSU has all the appropriate connectors and that they don't draw too much amperage (wattage is important, but amps are more so).

Wow people are ridiculous about PSUs...

I'm powering 2 8800GTs, AMD processor, Liquid cooling on my processor, 3 80mm fans, 2 120mm fans, 3 HDDs, 2 Cold Cathode tubes, 2 optical drives, wireless card, all in one media reader, and a floppy drive on a 450 watt PSU from NZXT.

Perfectly safe? Probably not. But 500 would be. People are scared to run 300watts of hardware on a 1000watter these days....

I think ppl are more comfortable knowing that the power draw of their system comes nowhere near the output of the PSU. I guess they don't want to "stress out" the power supply.

Well PSUs generally are more efficient if not at full load, so thats one benefit to it at least.

Yea, I forgot to say I was concerned about the amps, it lists the 12v rails as 18 amps but the 8800gt recommends 24amps... but ok thanks.

That's 18A for each of the four +12V rails.

The power supply lists the max combined power for all +12V rails at 680 watts, around 56 amps. That's a ridiculously heavy crossload, though. In reality, you're looking at around 44 amps under full load, possibly in the low 50s with a reasonable crossload.

I guess ppl (I myself included) are scared of the PSU stuff nowadays because thats the electrical part of the computer! People tend to freak out when they start thinking of frying anf blowing up PSUs lol ...but its true.
When you start reading requirements of PSUs being 500W and I having 400W we start to panic an dbelieve that this electrical stuff is gnna screw up your computer once and for all.

remember also Higher PSUs... Higher Bills!

That PSU is way overkill, 8800GT requires minimum 400W with 22A on +12V rail(source: EVGA site)
