Ok seriously, I am close to getting a sledge hammer from my back garden and just smashing it to bits, part by part!!

Unless

Anyone can help understand this problem.

My computer has started giving me random BSOD, but on the screen it mentions the file "NV4_DISP.DLL" which I know is an Nvidia driver process. I have had this problem in the past with a different driver version, therefore im thinking its either the card or my motherboard.

Also, sometimes during POST, I get 1 long and 2 short beeps, which im sure is also video card related. (I have an AWARD BIOS)

I dunno what you want us to tell you. If you're 100% certain its all related to your video card - replace your video card!

Get a new one, or attempt to make good on the manufacturer's warranty,

Have to run down the basics here...

Did you reinstall the drivers? Did you attempt to reset your bios (even award winning ones can get messed up)? Did you bother to check your temps of your GPU?

If you've done all of this and problems still continue, you may have a failing GPU.

why update your bios when you know its your vga? Did you get new drivers? If so, you should roll back to the ones that worked. If not like like said above, check you gpu temps.

btw wasdie: Award bios is a name of a type of bios =P, just saying.

Something else to note, after I updated my BIOS, my computer takes longer to POST, allthough it occationally doesnt post at all, but does after a second attempt. Would flashing BIOS again to an earlier version help at all ? or make it worse ? I have an Nvidia chipset on my motherboard, so would that also result in the NV4?DISP.DLL process appearing in the blue screen ?

Theres either a problem with the Nvidia chipset itself or with your video card, you could rule out what it is by swapping GPU's, try a friends or something, or try yours in a friends mobo.

yea i have to agree with this post its either your gpu is failing which i think is the most common problem or it might be your mobo but i pretty sure its your gpu...:)

NV4_DISP.DLL is a video card problem, not chipset. Either the driver is messed up, or the card is bad. If you've ruled out the driver, call EVGA and ask them to RMA it... if you registered the card with them you have a life-time warranty. If you didn't... er... you'll need to buy a new card.

From computerhope.com

1 long, 2 short Indicates a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information

Your GPU has poo pooed

Right ive emailed EVGA about possibly RMAing the card, however im aware that the 9800GTX+ isnt produced anymore. Therefore, would they send a card of equal value ? or performance ? Would they send me a better/worse card ?

My motherboard has a Nvidia chipset as well and when the PC was new it would randomly BSoD like yours. Strangely that didn't happen when a disc was in the disc drive. I found out that a Nvidia Nforce 750i driver was causing this, so i updated it and it worked.

I don't know if that helps you though...

They most likely have them(9800GTX) still in stock, and if not they will give a GTS 250 which is a modified 9800GTX.

This is a longshot. But, I noticed that your motherboard still have the old-style capacitors. You might want to inspect the motherboard for any bulging capacitors like this one. This was my 2005-era MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum (nForce4 Ultra) which died last year due to bad capacitors. Healthy capacitors are the ones near the purple port. The bad ones are near the CPU socket.

Although I also think it's the GPU that's causing the BSOD, it could also be the motherboard (pci-e slot, chipset).

Geforce GTS250 replacement or they could do "reflow"(re-bake) on the board.

Well, it turns out Ive lost my original invoice, which apparantly they require for RMA. Also, I registered the card, but I didnt do it in the first 30 days. Ive stuck the 9800GTX+ back into my system and im now going to focus on building my new system, when I get my student loan and grant
