Budget? HD 4850's are going as cheap as $150, and wil run nearly all games at max settings. (You should get a mix of high/very high settings in Crysis). Or for $240 you can get a GTX 260 in which I don't know if there are any games you can't completely max out with anti-aliasing. (Besides Crysis)

If you have more money, get a GTX 260... if you are on a budget go for the 4850. Both great cards and will certainly blow your 6600 out of the water. Your eyes will be re-opened into the pc gaming world.

and iv being trough the same problems as you Topic Creator we are on the same ship
the fan stopped spinning 2-3  day in middle of my Beta of City of Vilains Which explained horrible performances when i was doing a mission
it was free and fun mmorpg for freetime but in middle i died and then pc didn't come up it then how i realised that a video card after 1-2 year can die
great experiance when it free the mmorpg   the Card in quesiton was a 5700LE that iv bough back in 2004 : I was unaware of computer hardware & low in money
iv changed much i'm just not the same i'm a skilled pc builder and informated consumers from now on and with video card with fan if and it happent hat i  will see huge performances drop you can be sure i won't let a video card die of overheating anymore i'l just look into the case and see if it spin if it stop then buying after market cooler for the video card or buy a new video card

anyway also my 7600GT Of XFX XXX edition  still working but in the other pc but doing artifacting it alive but it can crash in middle of thing and do a open / close screen jams it do click / clock / click / clock and the only alternative to stop it is to press reset and lose what you where doing
so instead of buy my self a cheap video card i went from making a gaming machine from the project of november to last week of september
and it the best thing i ever did because 1 month after it you want to know the story ? it in canada it happen like any daily life.
all the hard i chosen that was regular / or with saving upgraded from 70$ to 170$ Each piece : motherboard 320$ not in sales to 370$
4870x2 from 599$ not in sale to 689-720$ with mail in rebate of 15-30$ and E8600 from 299$ to 365$+TAX and my case went up of 20$ :)
also the thermalright 120 extrem went high money

it woudl but then economy moeny and get a dual core you will be having a great downscale in performances or get ur self a 8800GT since ur a p4 3.4ghz two option : get a 8800GT or pick up the 260GTX you'd still get probabely better perofrnace then 8800Gt even tough oft eh bottlenecking but ud need ur self a somewhat new motherboard processor in future such as E5300 / E7300 / E8400 / Q6600 / Q9300 / up to ur budget iam2green

poppo8 it fun have cheap memory DDr2 but is having a pentium 4. he can';t run dDR2 Stay Away of ur knowledge you can reffer website i know them too the good website for buy part in usa is when it got sales in mail in rebate bu ti just told him that he should build is self a dual core machine later when he get money cause the video card such as higher then 8800GT will be huge bottleneck but may offer better performances still who know but as FAR I know of the bottlenecking the only way id make him spend 235$ for a video card is if he can get is self in future such as within a year a dual core / new machine else he shoudl stick to 8800GT and once he want a really good gaming machine go into the gTX 300 / 5870 with dual core / corei7 westmere 32nm or sandybridge if 2010 and not too expensive

everyone is suggesting cards that wont even fit in your case probably an 980GT would be your best shot if you are short on money a 9600GT would do even a best trick since the overclocked versions are raly close and sometimes it beats the 9800GT

9800GT= http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150316 109.99 after MIR

9600GT= http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130330 92.99 after MIR

in my opinion I think that 9600GT would be better than the 9800GT but the 9800GT runs much cooler and considering your case you need to know wish is btter perofrmance or staility

also i barely notced that you PCIe slot is X16 instead of X16 2.0 thats going to hold you bak a lot even with a fast card the difference would only be like 20 FPS also because of the P4 bottlenecking your PC since is running at 3.0Ghz and if im not mistaken is socket 478 wish is dead technology

8800GT or better can max any game out there besides one game Crysis.04dcarraher
that all depend on the res one is playing at. if people dont write what sort of res the card is to work under, there is no way of telling what card can run what game, or how well it will run.

I love my P4 (which is in the other room), but it's not going to do you any good in modern day gaming. Maybe for older games, but not the likes of COD:WAW and Crysis. It's time for an upgrade.

all i can say is this: shamwow!

and i agree with the above statements, i just moved outta my beat up old pentium D processor, which is about the same playin field as a Pentium 4, so yeah id get urself sumthin nice like 8800 or better. you PSU is ample for essentially any 1 pci-e x16 (or 2.0) on the market. id suggest u get a new mobo but thats just a suggestion. and yeah c2d if you got the cash.

recommends for a card are basically all above me :P
