I'm sure this question has been asked before but... (Vista or Xp!?)

I'm getting a new computer soon and would like some intelligent opinions. Your thoughts?

I know Crysis will be possible on Direct X9 though I'm afraid the "bells and whistles" will be missing from the direct x9 version. I'm fine with getting either Vista or XP. I'm aware that XP is currently better overall over Vista... though XP's time will come to an end soon... I know that if I go with Vista I'll be missing out on some of the great direct X9 games such Civilization, Sims 2, Total War, andsuch thatI really would like to play on my new computer were I to get Vista...so really the question is...should I get Vista? Any help would be appreciated.

You won;t really be missing out, asthe majority of games (albeit a bit slower) will work fine on vista.

Although if I am wrong, feel free to point that out.

Some older games may not work in Vista, but the newer ones will, although you may notice a hitch in performance (a small one).

I'd get Vista, because it's newer and makes XP look old-fashioned, and supports DX10. Yep, those are my only reasons.

If you're spending money and can afford it, and your computer is good for it, go with Vista. It has problems but so does every operating system. It's not worth it to spend real, actual money on XP when it's outdated.

If you get a new computer pre-built and it comes with Vista, then stay with it. Even so if you're building it yourself, if you got a OEM copy or free copy of Vista, use it.

But if you've got XP already, then I say stick with it for now. Vista isn't important to games yet (even with other aspects such as security, I would say XP is still as good) unless you're desperate to play Halo 2 and Shadowrun.

Very good advice

Even though I think Vista works very well, you don't need it yet (unless you want Halo 2, Shadowrun), but then don't spend money on XP either if you have Vista or need an OS (go with Vista in that case).

IF it ain't broken don't fix it.. XP works fine with all games (except DX10, Halo 2 sucks anyway on PC, go buy a Xbox and play it on that .. :) )

if you're getting a new computer, just make the jump. It will save you around 100 bucks when it's time to upgrade, so I would just do it now.

Not much game plays better on Vista. I'd rather play XP to save memory than use Vista.
