I am going to purchase a used Dell XPS 410 with 1.86 c2d, 4gbs of ram and a nvdidia 8600gts graphics card. My questions are two... (Vista Ultimate btw)

1) Will Team Fortress 2 run decently well on it?

2) How much would you think a used box like this should cost? With just a standard harddrive ( i think 120)

You should be able to run TF2 and other games, but it'll have to be at med-low settings. I wouldn't pay more then $600 for that.

You could always OC the processor up a bit and be able to play games on higher settings.

I don't think you'll be able to access the bios to overclock the cpu with a dell, even with an XPS, but for $400 with the monitor its a great deal. Plus if you want to play games at highter setting a graphcs card upgrade to someting like an 8800gt for about $150 will make much more difference than overclocking the CPU.

Hell, Windows Vista Ultimate and a 22" monitor alone will cost damn near $400. You're getting a computer for free!

Maybe but TF2 is easily the most demanding game in the orange box.

Wrong TF2 will run absolutely fine maxed out. I ran it nearly maxed on at 1680 x 1050 when i had to RMA my motherboardon this one .... i was using an Athlon 3500+ 1 gig of DDR400 ram and a 7600GT.

Altho just curiuos for the price why not upgrade the GPU a bit to a 8800Gt or 9600GT or even a 4850 (bit more money more performance) and the CPU to a e2160 then OC it

I'm not going to be around for too much longer (just until the end of this year. Going on a 2 year service mission) So i'm not really concerned about it being upgradeable or anything like that. I just want to play team fortress 2 and some other similar games while i'm up at school. So i think this works out nicely.

Wow,that is a good deal. And yeah 8600gts should max out TF2 at a pretty high resolution. And there are ways to overclock the processor in Dells/HPs... i guess he has a core2duo 6300 in it coz it is used and works at 1,86GHz.

Before I upgraded, I could max it on a 7600GT so he'd be more than fine
