If you're looking for a game with lots of action, then Civ IV is not for you, but if you like turn based strategy games, then it's a must buy. Civ IV is the best Civilization game to date, and the Beyond the Sword expansion pack makes it even better It's worth every penny, it's always a game you can go back to, unlike most games that you finish in 10 hours to never play the game againADG_
Yeah + there's a new expansion announced :D CiV IV: Colonization.
Civilization is not badass, but it's definitely not boring or tedious. It's one of the most addicting gaming formulas ever devised. Civilization is a turn-based strategy game so if you're looking for some fast-paced action, stay away. Check out the demo, lots of people bought Civ IV because it got a 9.4 and then they were disappointed because they couldn't comprehend its slow-paced awesomeness. Buy it if you like the demo, not because it's a highly rated game.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it's release :) And it's a stand-alone expansion pack AFAIKCiv IV is the best in its genre. I guess most GTA players would say it's boring but it's just a relaxing and also quite addictive game.
Just...one...more...turn

LOL what does GTA have to do with CIV?
I am a fanboy let's say regarding GTA but I also love CIV, Caesar and the king, Heroes of Might and Magic :).
That's the worst example for people that don't like CiV i've seen in a week or even a month.
I thought that was obvious but I will spell it out for you. :)
Most GTA players are adolescents who want quick action and flashy substance with a low learning curve. Stuff not found in Civ IV. Savvy?

Still no connection between them, enlighten me ;).
It's like saying CS players can't play CoH because they want fast paced action and are unable to form tactics. People like different types of games, some like FPS or shooters, some like RPGs or RTS, do they have to play a specific type just to make them available for comparisons? don't think so. What's wrong in liking any type of game and to adapt from slow to fast ? That's why games are made in categories like RTS, FPS, RPG, TBS,.....
That's your opinion but I think it's way off and it has nothing to do with the GTA players or any other players, it's just taste in games and just because I don't like sport managers doesn't mean I don't like strategical things or something like that. ;) Sawy?
Games are fun and some types appeal more to some users but that doesn't make the rest that don't like that particular type tards or something.DanielDust >> What he's saying is kinda obvious I'd say. If you ask a lot of GTA fans what other games they like a lot, only few of them would mention games like Civilization, and the same goes the other way I'm one of them who loves both GTA and Civilization. All my gamer friends loves action games (GTA, UT, Half-life, etc), but only few of them likes strategy games and none of them would touch Civilization because it's too slow paced. Only a "small" percentage of GTA fans are also fans of CivlizationADG_
Well I do have friends like that, that love fps(GTA, RPG, shooter whatever) and hate RTS, but even those like TBS games (the slowest of them all) some even worship them, homm3 for example and if they hear about CoH or WiC they almost beat me :P.
Generalizations like this one are pretty much far-fetched. As far as I know people that play CS 1.6 don't play more than 3 games in 2 years, but that's just me and all my friends that play CS and some of their friends but that doesn't mean the whole world is like that and I can't take that for a fact, not even use it to or to make a statement in saying what they would find boring in certain games.
He said some, but what does some mean? 99% of them? 1%? we don't know and we will never know. Still saying "some" doesn't quite validate it.
Anywayz, like I said, it's a good game, it's one of the best from the genre and you should buy it and don't be afraid GTA players won't hate you for it + GTA isn't exactly fast paced, only the highway in SA on which cars run with over 300 km/h.:)
I am a great fan of the CIV-series. I had Civ I and II and, i'm sorry to say, bought Civ IV last year. I had great difficulties installing it on my PC. Later i had alot of problems playing it. There is nothing wrong with my PC and it meets the necessary requirements.
Out of frustration i uninstalled it and reinstalled Civ II.
I do not recommend Civ IV :(
Basicly, if you played one Civ game, you've played them all.
Stuff just added with each version. Civ II added 3d, (Alpha Centari added a storyline and is the only one with a storyline.), Civ III added traditional influence and boarders, and Civ IV adds religion influence.
I recommend getting this if you do buy it.... because it's cheaper just buying Civ IV this way. Only thing it's minus the expansion pack: http://www.amazon.com/Sid-Meiers-Civilization-Chronicles-Pc/dp/B000IU1PQA/ref=pd_bbs_9?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1224095772&sr=8-9
The only thing I'm concerned about is that the game seems like it could get tedious and/or boring. Prove me wrong Gamespot, I hope you do because this seems like a badass game. edgewalker16
It could. I played it both with the Warlords and the Beyond the Sword expansions, and I must say that without at least the Beyond the Sword expansion, the game gets tedious much quicker. It always gets boring after you've played it for hours straight. But the good thing is you can pick it up after a month again or so and play it again and have as joyful a time as you had the last time.
The main gripe I have with Civilization is that it is so random. Perhaps you will appreciate the randomness more than I do. And if you do, chances are you won't get bored as easily.
But: By all means get at least the Beyond the Sword expansion for it. It's too boring not to be able to create vassal states. The Warlords expansion lets you do it too, but it's not as good as Beyond the Sword otherwise.
