Apple is accused of being overpriced, but the truth is that iMac 27" is actually very fairly priced, and an excellent gaming machine.

IPS 1440x2560 Display = $1000

i5-2400 3.1GHz = $180

6970m (Equivilent to 6850) = $150

PSU = $60

Casing = $100

4GB ram = $30

1TB 7200RPMHard Drive = $125

Motherboard = $100

Keyboard/Mouse = $100

Speakers = $25

HD Webcam = $30

One-Year warranty = complimentary

Total = $1900

Amazon sells the iMac for $1910.

This goes to show that apple is not as over priced as people think. You also get an OS which I would value at atleast $100, for free.

When you break it down, iMac's are premium and reasonably priced computers, even more-so than PC's.

And then any time you want to upgrade you have to replace everything. Most PC users keep their monitor for years and years.

I think macs are fine but this is one of the stupidest arguments ever.

On top of that the imacs use laptop parts and are prone to hardware malfunctions.

Also you live in bizzaro world where everyone's monitor is sideways

The GPU is the only laptop part, and even though it is a 6970m I counted the cost as a 6850, so that argument is not relevant.

As someone that has to support over 300 imacs I can tell you you are full of crap.

One of the computers at my desk at work is a C2D 27" imac even.

What? I am not talking about laptops? And please post a $1900 build that is better than this that includes a 2560 x 1440 IPS display, a OS, and premium mouse and keyboard.

PC users keep their mouse/keyboard/monitor/speakers for years and years. So things like that never factor into their purchases.

Basically take off 1100 dollars for those things and you have the PC equivalent.

I've taken dozens of imacs appart in the last few months and I can tell you all of those parts are laptop parts. ALso the heat inside those things is insane, every component dies way before it should.

Well, the monitor is built in. It is in All in One, which is a trade-off, saving desktop space for a built in screen. And you can sell the Mouse.Keyboard for $100 back if you want and then take that price off.

PC users don't buy all-in-one solutions, so that not a trade off they would make.

I think personally this is an awful gaming machine, all the money went in the wrong place. 1/2 of the budget on a monitor in my mind is wrong, it is almost a decent photo editing machine, besides the fact that it has 4gb of ram, and the processor is a little slow for the price, but form factor plays into that...

Premium mouse/keyboard is completely personal, I do not like the feel of their peripherals at all, those would have to be replaced.

Well, they can have several Apps open. Obviously only one at a time, but would you want 2+ Apps on a 9.7" Screen? Remember, the iPad is not a PC. It is a content consumption device, and the only people that hate it are those that expect a 9mm thick device to run Final Cut.

Well, I am speaking of the 2011 iMac's in terms of parts. I was simply using the 2006 one as an example that they run for a while. 2011 is current Gen with current gen parts. Good luck buying a PC with 2012 parts. Oh wait, they are not out yet.

I am no monitor expert. Just pointing out that for a gaming setup, 1/2 the budget on a monitor seems silly(atleast a 2k budget).

Cheaper for a system with an i5-2500k, with a closed water loop, so when OC, there's gonna be a huge difference with that mac, and crossfire 6870, wich will destroy the mac's 6970m.

8gb of Ram compare to 4.

compare to a Prebuilt, it might seem like a good deal, but I still managed to find a better deal in less than 5min.

Also goodluck gaming at 2560x1440 with a 6970m

If I have to throw away a 27" IPS display when the hardware is obsolete... then I don't want that PC in the first place.

The 6970m is weaker than a 6850,6790 and gtx 460. Heck it's weaker than the GPU in my 3 year old desktop build. That is a crap build for gaming at 1440P. It only has 4gigs and doesn't even use RAID 0.

  • 500 GB HDD

  • 4 GB RAM

  • Display port/Thujnderbolt

  • 21.5 Inch Screen (1920x1080)

  • $1398

The Dell wins for value for money witha bigger screen, double the HDD, TV tuner, Blu Ray and more RAM for the same price.

Now the Apple has a bit of a good spot here in the bigger end. Not only has it got the Higher screen res and the larger, but also has the better graphics card. the HP however would win if the customer wasnt swayed by sheer screen size, but instead wanting faster and more features for cheaper (even compare the Mac upgrade prices)

Dude, you can get a 2560x1440 IPS monitor for $500. So you are already $500 of in your first sentence. EDIT: Scratch that, the Dell U2711 is quite a lot more expensive in the US.

Also the argument I meant to make but didn't:

For a gaming machine:

Find me any imac that can crossfire or SLI

Also goodluck gaming at 2560x1440 with a 6970m

AND find me an imac that doesn't look retarded in a mutli monitor setup

GummiRaccoon

This is sooooooooo truee, my bro is a mac fan and he bought one of those fancy shmancy 27" imacs.

He then invited me over to his room to look at him playing SC2 in 2560x1440. When he got in the middle of the fight i lol'ed soo hard when his FPS dropped to like 1fps which then led to him ragequitting and going back to browsing the internet. :lol:

Apple is accused of being overpriced, but the truth is that iMac 27" is actually very fairly priced, and an excellent gaming machine.

IPS 1440x2560 Display = $1000

i5-2400 3.1GHz = $180

6970m (Equivilent to 6850) = $150

PSU = $60

Casing = $100

4GB ram = $30

1TB 7200RPMHard Drive = $125

Motherboard = $100

Keyboard/Mouse = $100

Speakers = $25

HD Webcam = $30

One-Year warranty = complimentary

Total = $1900

Amazon sells the iMac for $1910.

This goes to show that apple is not as over priced as people think. You also get an OS which I would value at atleast $100, for free.

When you break it down, iMac's are premium and reasonably priced computers, even more-so than PC's.

the psu would be more like $30 case more like $20 mobo more like $65 keyboard and mouse not more than $60 thats $195 right there.

Firstly post in a font colour and size people can read. The PSU won't be $60 The motherboard won't be $100 The hard drive wouldn't normally be that price. Keyboard and mouse is not $100 The speakers are crap inbuilt and worse than a $10 2.0 setup. All in ones are crap value since you get no upgrade options and they overheat.

The one thing I will agree on is that the display is beautiful. It's a high res and high quality LG IPS panel and it looks great. But you can build a PC with the same specs for half the price.
