Haven't seen a thread about it yet so i thought i'd post this for my fellow gamespotters and PC gamers. Impulse is currently having a sale from August 30 to September 10. Part of the money goes to charity.

Now most of the games are indie titles but there is some various deals that are worth considering.

Highlights of the sale (in US $)

Dragon Age Bundle (contains both Origins and Awakening) for $28.29

Disciples 3: Renaissance for $19,99

Tropico 3 for $14,99

The Sims 3 for $23,57 and expansions (various deals)

Hearts of Iron 3: Semper Fi for $13,99

King's bouty Armored Princess for $17,49

King's bounty Gold Edition for $22,49

THQ ultimate bundle $49,99

What is Impulse exactly? Is it a program like Steam?

mrbojangles25
Yes, except you don't have to run it to start your games. Only if you need to download a patch. The big problem with them is lack of game selection. They have a tiny fraction of the games available to steam. Some of these deals are pretty good.

It's Stardock's digital distribution platform, they sell software and games. Most games are shovelware, overpriced and regionally restricted, the store has a terrible interface and, well, they always put crap casual games on the front page so it's no wonder people don't pay attention. Impulse doesn't have to run in the background while you're playing, so paranoids think it's better than Steam.

It's worth it for stuff like Sins of a Solar Empire, Elemental, GalCiv 2 and a bunch of software. But it still has a long, long way to go to catch up with the big boys in this field. Example: you have to go to the minuscule Explore button at the top of the page, then click the On Sale button in the pop-up to see a list of all games included in this offer. Madness!

That being said, I was looking forward for three games - the SOASE expansions and Sacred 2. None are discounted.

Why isn't Stardock including its own games in this sale anway? Madness!

I think ive bought 4 games from them? No issues yet with Impulse :D

I like it alot more then D2D.
Also how you dont have to have the Impulse program runnign while you play the games is a plus.

Steam and Impulse are my favorites out of the 5 DD ive tried.

Definatly have used steam the most, but the times ive used impulse ive been impressed.

At first I thought to myself "Do I really need another DD for my pc games?" but its been pretty much hassle free so far.

As the person above me said, sometiems some games are a bit much, but most the games are same price for me as steam.

1. Steam

2. Impulse

3. GOG.com

had the best experience with those above.

It's pretty ridiculous that most of the titles they have on "sale" are not available in my region (United Kingdom). I was tempted to give Sims 3 a got for £16 but nope not available in my region. Ho well the dragon age bundle looks tempting ......... oh guess what not available in my region, yet for some strange reason I can buy Dragon Age from steam in my region.

I agree with this. Not a great selection, nothing that would turn me away from Steam

I agree. I'm not seeing much to get excited about... at least, not anything I don't already own.

There's quite a few games on there that are worth playing.

King's Bounty

Tropico 3

Shadowgrounds

Mount and Blade: Warband

Dragon Age

Disciples 3

Necrovision

Gothic 3: Gold

Gothic 2: Gold

Gratuitous Space Battles

Spellforce 2

Painkiller

Avencast: Rise of the Mage

Darkstar One

Space Rangers 2

These are just the games I have played and enjoyed too...not all are amazing (mostly just 'good') but a few are excellent games like King's Bounty. Also, for those who are unfamilar with Impulse, it's an excellent service. If I have a choice I usually go with STEAM, but Impulse is a very good system too.

I was tempted to pick up Space Rangers 2 complete pack, but I've already got a ton of 2nd tier games from the last big steam sale to still play through.

But nothing would go to the charity if you bought the game at Gamestop. What's your point?

Gamestop?! what?? has one person said that this whole thread? My point was the "sale" is not really a sale as better deals can be had elsewhere. The money actually donated through this is below 5% of the total revenue from this. My point being .... (thought it was pretty obvious) .... is that I can buy most of those games for less, and still donate DIRECTLY 5$ and A) save more money than this deal B) donate MORE money to the charity | at the same time... who buys PC games at gamestop ... YUCK! They treat their PC boxes like garbage.

While it's true that some games have had better deals in the past and will in the future, as of now, they are cheaper than the games with no deals.

Actually, Impulse Dragon Age deal is one of the best i saw so far from all DD retailers since its release. I posted this not because i really care about the charity part but because there was some good deals that were worth looking at. Most of the stuff is 50% off, if you don't consider that a good deal i don't know what to tell you.
