In 2008, characters in EVE will be shipbound no more! (graphics look awesome)

I just can't believe no other game has been made to compete with Eve yet. They did almost everything right..... It's still the only truly open MMO out there.

I really want to try this game but I think it's a little late, everyone would be miles ahead.

It's an MMORPG based in space. I tried to get into it, but the sheer size and amount of things to do was just daunting. Oh and the tutorials ended prematurely on my version, that might have helped also.

This isn't a traditional MMO, there is no level grinding and such. It's never too late to play Eve.... It's kind of hard to understand, but they do offer a free trial to get you started. I highly suggest at everyone giving it a try....

It does look nice but then considering the expansion is going to be released in 2008 doesn't make it all the amazing.

You do realize there's more to a game than graphics right?

Do you realize that you can discuss graphics and still care about gameplay? He has a point that the graphics aren't that amazing compared to what will be out in 2008.

He said nothing about gameplay, so don't assume things.

About Eve, I always wanted to get into it - but honestly after all the stories, I think it is too much of a simulation for me to enjoy. Death penalties are killer - I would hated to be podded after spending months on a character. I realize there is insurance, but it doesn't cover everything.

It's a niche game, alot of people want harsh death pens for a more rewarding game that takes alot of time. However some people prefer a faster paced game because of their life **** with work and family etc etc.

If I ever decide to play an MMO, I think Eve will be it. There just doesn't seem to be much out there like it. Anarchy is old, Matrix is iffy, Tabula Rasa- don't know much about it. Eve is not only hanging in there, they actually seem to genuinely try to improve and change the game. I respect that.

Looks awesome, but I feel a bit iffy about those graphics actually making the cut. Sure, hardware power is increasing, but 2008 is just around the corner. I mean, Age of Conan is supposed to be THE mmo (with DX10 and all that crap), yet it looks nowhere near that good.

Well, one can always hope though...

Don't sweat that, man.  It's not a game like the rest, where you have to have the best to compete.  Unless you go looking for PvP in the dangerous systems, you can have a lot of fun from the get-go.

You don't even have to be the best at anything, pvp alone is pretty much useless. You'll have to joing a corp (guild) and have giant fleet battles in 0.0 to make a difference, ofcorse you'll have 1 on 1's or 1 on 2's in 0.4 and 5 tho.

What?! No level grinding? Eve is all about grinding. You level automatically over time so maybe you don't do the actual "play" for levels, but you still grind for everything else. Especially if you take up mining for your main career. (Which you will have to start off doing anyways to make your first few bucks).

And Darklord888 is right, anyone who starts EVE now WILL be miles behind most players and always behind anyone who started a couple of weeks or more before them. (except maybe the odd person that forgot to get the next skill training up).

CCP (Eve developers) have also been shown to fall in the "not to concerned about ethics" dept. A couple of the developers where caught playing characters (which in itself is not a bad thing) and cheating by giving unfair advantages/favoritism to one of the biggest corps in eve. The main culprit didn't even get a "slap on the wrist" for it. To make a long story short, they did a phoney (imho) investigation and said, "Ok, we sorted it out." In actuality doing virtually nothing about it.

Now EVE is sending out emails virtually "begging" people who have quit eve to come back. Gimme a break.

Personally, I wouldn't play Eve again (i played it for a year when it first came out and could see THEN already what kind of people CCP were) if you paid me.

If you're looking for a good space sim MMO, check out Infinity: The Quest for Earth. It's coming out, most likely, in early 2008. From everything I've seen so far (I'm on their forums checking it out myself) it looks like the developers of Infinity actually CARE about their customers. Click here to check it out.

I hate to sound like I'm bashing EVE. When I first started playing that game I so loved it. But unfortunately, CCP showed over time that they did not care too much about the gameplay fun for the players or adding new content for the sake of having new content. They showed more concern about making it take longer for you to get anywhere in that game over time (using new content to facilitate this mostly). That was the main reason myself and MANY people quit playing Eve. The potential of that game was SO amazing but CCP turned it into a boring grind where "If i've been playing longer than you, I own you." type thing. It's a shame really.

You start any mmorpg and your miles behind : EVE Has ways of letting new players catch up anyways like the whole new tutorial and character setup. Sure you'll never catch up old players in terms of SP's but if you specalise in something then you can become better than them at it. Anyways playing alone is useless you have to join a corp and work together so the ammount of SP you have doesn't matter.

Also the game is a grind if you make it that, any mmorpg can be a grind lol, the thing eve lets you do is have full freedom to become a pirate and scam people or blow em up for no reason. Run a world bank and loan service if you wanna. Can dedicate your time to help noobs out. you can do missions or do trade routes or play with your corp to do corp stuff.

if you just sit there a mine 24/7 then you wont enjoy it :

They are very similar, the only difference is that EVE is futuristic and PoTBS isn't.

Thought I would give it a go again after only playing the first week after it's launch.
I found my old character has 11 skill points, while the one I just created has 21 skill points ?
Maybe they decided to give the starting person a better head start than it used to be ?
