It looks like more content is going to be added to Guild Wars original game (now called Prophecies) in order to bridge the gap between itself and GW2.

In case you missed the announcement here it is:

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/guildwars/news.html?sid=6258414&tag=topslot;title;1

Looks like I'm going to dust off the game and start a new character, perhaps an Elementalist, and take her through the game.

My Mesmer, Hekaate Magus, was my first and best character, but I'll probably leave her retired.

No. The whole point of them doing a sequel was so they could rebuild the game mechanics from the ground up. Also, it's set about 250 years later, which incidentally is roughly about how long it will be before they show any gameplay footage.

I can't wait for this now. Is it just going to be a couple of new quests/missions/items, or is it gonna be like players on both sides fighting against eachother?

However, my understanding is......the titles your characters get and place in the Hall of Monuments (located in Eye of the North expansion) will carry over to GW2 in the form of additional content or quests or such. Your name for your characters will also be reserved for your account should you wish to use it for that game.

I haven't read anything that implies additional quests. They haven't revealed specific details yet, but it sounds to me like maybe one will get vanity items or something for Hall of Monuments stuff. They have stated that no gameplay advantage will be conferred by it. I suspect it won't be all that different from the collector's edition or preorder bonus items that often come with MMORPGs, such as the exclusive pet with the collector's edition of World of Warcraft. I think it's going to probably be one of those things people largely forget about a week after they get the game. The reserved name thing is good, but if your desired name is still available at this point then chances are it's still going to be available when GW2 comes out, unless it deals specifically with GW lore or something.

There are no different player sides in Prophecies. That's Factions.

I checked it out today as well, though I am slightly dissapointed I didn't see any changes or any new quests, though I didn't spend very long so I think its just a build up before it actually comes out? or did I miss anything?

read about halfway down......

so actually it says "And for those looking even further down the road at Guild Wars 2, Guild Wars: Eye of the North will provide a Hall of Monuments where players' accomplishments are memorialized and eventually inherited by their Guild Wars 2 characters, unlocking exclusive items and bonuses in Guild Wars 2."

.....ok I wasn't exactly correct but as you see, "unlocking exclusive items and bonuses in Guild Wars 2"

Works for me.

Yeah, you get exclusive...something, but they have specifically stated said they won't give players any gameplay advantage. I don't have a link because that was forever ago that I read that and I don't remember which interview(s) that was from. It's always possible they could change their mind and give people something that offers a temporary advantage at early levels, but I doubt it. It wouldn't really fit in with the general mindset of the developers of the game either.
