Nothing works.. Supreme Commander crashes upon every perpetual onslaught.  It works perfectly fine, then right as I'm about to attack, the game crashes and Windows says it's stopped working.  Oblivion works fine where I'm at now (I have my tower plugged into my downstairs PC), but whenever I boot it up on my 20" widescreen it starts up that little window and then I get the same error.  I want to run the Lost Planet demo, DX9 or DX10, doens't matter but it says it's missing the d3dx(9 or10)_33.dll file, and I downloaded both and put them in my nvida folder.  I have all the Windows updates from their website, but I need to figure out what's wrong.. help

Did you try the new nVidia 8-series drivers?  How about the beta drivers?

are u sure the d3dx file is in the right directory? ive just checked my PC and found a load of those files in my windows/system32 folder. this is on a XP media center edition though. perhaps reinstalling DX 9 or 10 will fix the problem and ensure the file is installed correctly. u could also have the wrong version of the file (my PC has a few with _27 to _30 at the end of their names) so reinstalling DX should fix that too.

again im basing this on XP. Vista could be very different. a quick google search should help.

Nope, downloaded the .45 nvidia update and supreme commander still crashed.  I think the Oblivion problem is my viewsonic drivers.. but Lost Planet still won't load.

When you download patches for games, does the latest patch include the content of the older patches, or should I download every patch the game has?

No, you just have to find one that goes from your version that you currently have to the lastest.

For the DLL files that you mentioned before, they need to go into C:\Windows\System32 not the Nvidia folder.  As for Aero, right click the desktop, then choose personalize and there you should have access to choose Aero.

Upgrade directX and upgrade drivers should solve your problems. I have the game and not a single problem.
