You didn't hear the fan run louder ? Check with gpu-z if the speed you set in the xml file has been changed correctly.

by 'fan fix' do you mean a patch? or where you edit you're ati profile
and i cant trust gpu-z, because it claims i only have320 unified shaders (aint it 800)/
plus it doesnt show my fan speeds/core temps (is therea n update or soemthin)?

it does, maybe you have an oudated version
when you did the profile edit, did you make sure you set the value called "percent" not "rpm", and did you change the above value to "manual" instead of "automatic" ??
I haven't used CCC in a long time. I use Ati Tray Tools which doesn't support the HD4800 series yet. You normally set 3D settings depending on the game you're about to play. I don't think you can create profiles for games in CCC like you can in ATT. Anyway here's a guide on how to use CCC with explanations on the 3D settings.
