I really don't know why you want to limit yourself to one planet and just evolve your creatures, not tech. The planets are relatively small, but the universe they made is full of planets. From what I saw in the trailers and other vids, there are over 100 planets and I sure hope there are soo many :).
Actually there is susposed to be more like half a million planets, don't quote me, but I think i read this in one of the articles from yesterday. It has also been mentioned that you don't have to advance to the later stages of the game. Staying in the pre-civ stages of the game would be you're best bet if you want to make the zerg :)

Yea iv heard this too, thats alot of planets :shock:
You could stay in the tribal stage if you want to remain primitive, but you can't build an empire unless you enter the Civ phase, and if you want an interplanetary and then interstellar empire, you eventually head to the Space phase.
You can, however, be very Zerg like in your actions. Be super aggressive and only attack. This causes your "culture" to be very low and your tribes to resort to "play fighting" instead of having indepth conversations or singing songs together.
Modders will probably find a way to do that.Lonelynight
Unfortunately, due to the strange mix of MMO and SP elements....I doubt mods will be possible. I think it's pretty obvious Spore is planning on being much like the Sims and will have TONS of expansion packs coming out for additional content. Modders could probably make a "Flying creatures" mod pretty easily, but a flying creatures expansion is no doubt already planned. I suppose mods might be possible if a person wants to play in offline mode only, but I doubt it.
AND AGAIN NOBODY KNOWS INFO. From homepage comes info that there is going to be about 4 million planets. (!) That's actually more than you can visit in a lifetime. Prove me wrong.
