Alright, so I've recently gotten into indie games, as I'm bored with mainstream games. Could you guys recommend me some good indie games for PC? I prefer RPG, Action, or Strategy, but I'm open to whatever.

I've already played Amnesia, Braid, Audiosurf, Trine, Machinarium, and Plants vs. Zombies. (Out of those, I would definitely recommend Amnesia and Braid if you haven't played them).

I'll look into them, but I'm leaning towards games with some sort of story, atm. Anyone try Gemini Rue?

Not much of a story for either, but both Sanctum and Frozen Synapse are great. Sanctum is a tower defense/FPS hybrid, while FS is a TBS. Sanctum has a demo, and check out the Total Biscuit Youtube video for Frozen Synapse to get an idea of it. I'm having more fun with these two games than most AAA games.

Evochron Legends for a cool space-sim.

Star Ruler for a solid and ever improving 4x space strategy.

A.I. War for another kickass 4x style strategy game that is very unique and fun imho.

Sanctum, and FPS/Tower Defense hybrid that is actually pretty entertaining.

Revenge of the Titans is a defense strategy game that is also very addictive.

I have a ton of indie games, I have even purchased a few just to support the devs and I've yet to touch the game. That's how Star Ruler was for me, I picked it up a looong time ago, tried it once, it intially was no fun...then I started playing again about a month ago and it's been my primary game as of recently. You may like Trine, is Torchlight indie? Either way it's entertaining. I did also recently pick up Frozen Synapse on sale on steam, that is a very cool turn base strategy game.

Yeah, the story is the best part about it. The puzzles are also great, and the visuals and atmosphere too. If you like adventure games, particularly old school ones it's a must have.

I recommend Recettear, Sanctum, Audiosurf, Amnesia, Terraria, Minecraft.

Forgot to add Super Meat Boy although you better use a controller for that game and have magic fingers.

You should try the demo. I tried it recently, and it's near the top of my "to buy" list as a result.

Anomaly - reverse tower defense, really cool idea and a lot of fun. It has a demo so give it a shot.

Amnesia - extremely atmospheric and creep horror game. One of the scariest and most disconcerting games around.

Torchlight - really fun Diablo type hack-and-slash RPG. Give it a shot, the sequel is due out in a few months and will have 6 or 8 player (they haven't decided yet) co-op.

Plants vs. Zombies - hard to describe, but lots of fun. You eventually get dozens of weaponized plants that you have to use to fend off waves of zombies. Has won a bunch of awards.

Those are the ones I am most familiar with.

That was a good demo. It reminded me of Beneath the Steel Sky which is also free on GOG.

Honestly I like both, AI War has more action and seems to take off faster, while Star Ruler seems more hardcore and needs more attention, takes longer to get going, has newtonian physics, etc. Depends on what youw ant honestly...try the AI War demo for sure, try the Star Ruler demo for sure.

Star Ruler is on sale for $6.80...AI war was just on sale the other day. If you can get both under $20-30, do it imho. Both are great at how they go about the genre in their design aspects. I feel AI War is a better product because it has been out longer and has a lot of expansion goodies to it as well...but Star Ruler is constantly being updated and will have it's official release soon...it's still in beta iirc. Try the demo, but if you want more action and a solid AI, get AI War, if you want more of everything else get Star Ruler imho. Cheers.

+1 for World of Goo and Braid. I don't think PvZ is indie though as it was developed by PopCap.
