you can configure the 360 controller for source games, but it can be a right pain in the ass. CS is not an easy game to get into, but its rewarding. TF2 is pretty good to get into.

BE WARNED: COUTER STRIKE DEVOURS NOOBS. Practice with your friends, because all the regulars that play online will do horrible anal things to the un-prepared.

You'll get torn apart if you stick to controller, no matter which online FPS you play... Get used to keyboard/mouse if you're gonna make the move to PC :)

Get the Orange Box to start off with. It has something for everyone. And it is a good start for you if you want to get into pc shooters, and then you can buy CS Source later.

I would agree that CS is an easy game to get into, more so than TF2. It's a bit slower paced and much simpler of a game. And to be honest, if you want to be competitive online, make a mouse and keyboard your friend.

Start with Doom. Then go to Quake or Unreal Tournament. Then Half Life. Then System Shock 2 or Deus Ex. And then anywhere you want from there.

If you start at the beginning and work your way through the developmental stages then you should be able to handle anything that comes out these days. And once you get used to them, PC controls offer far more precise aim and much more immersion. Practice makes perfect... and just so you know, CS is probably the worst place to start or practice.

Umm no, don't waste a dime of Half Life 2 yet. Onboard video cards are really bad for high graphic games. You should buy Counter Strike, remember if you buy any of the Half Life 1 games, Blue shift, ect... you get access to all the Half Life 1 games, CS, BS, HL1, TFC ect...

My friend couldn't even play Half Life 2 on his computer he bought 2 years ago without buying the GeForce 5500 (Not a great card but he only had PCI) and even then it's not great.

Buy Counter Strike and get into that game, a lot of people play it still and I believe even more play Counter Strike then Counter-Strike Source. You can also check out some free FPS's, Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. I would even Suggest Quake 3, but you might get killed even more in that game then Counter Strike. Another great way is to find some Single player FPS to get use to everything.

So, I really have never enjoyed the pc shooters I have played because they were just too complex for me. No suprise from someone who has played console shooters his whole life. I pretty much keep my pc gaming to rpgs and rts. I have a couple of friends who play CS, and I was just wondering if it was an easy shooter to get into. Also, is steam a good way to get this game, because I saw it for $9.99 and thought I might as well try it. One more thing, if I can't seem to get used to the controls, can I use my 360 controller....thanks anyone who can help xD.

If you're going to get into PC shooters... the first thing you need to do is drop that controller and learn to use the superior keyboard/mouse. Otherwise you might as well forget about surviving long.

LOL omg the bold part actually made me bust out laughing! CS is like THE most n00b unfriendly game out there. I play CS:S and even that is taking me awhile to get competitive with (I've only been playing for about a week but i'm really learning the maps and tactics and the newest thing i'm working with is the awp. now i can own with it :D). but that aside, it's still a great, addictive, competitive game that i think you should get.

CS isn't too bad to get into. Since you can potentially kill anyone with just 1 headshot you can get kills even if you're bad. Something like QW (quakeworld) is many more times difficult to get into. CS is cheap too so by all means, pick it up!

Start out playing Half-Life... play through that game and you should be able to get the mouse/keyboard control scheme down. Then after that you can get on to team fortress. There are re-spawns so you don't have to sit around and wait after you die. Once you're comfortable with running around a lot and controlling yourself, you can hop on over to CS 1.6 =)

Get the Orange Box or, if you got the money, the package with ALL the halflife related games.

If you dont enjoy the Orange Box, then I think the FPS genre isnt for you.

You might not be able to run the games on the orange box. Anyway since your just getting into PC Fps games you should start with the classics:

HalfLife Anthology

Quake 3

Unreal Tournament

Call of Duty (if you can run it)

There are a lot of people still playing those games. Then when you get the jist of those you can upgrade your PC and play some of the new games.

Cause you don't want to miss Fear, Call of Duty 2, Doom 3, Painkiller, half life 2 and Orange box, etc...
