an 8800GT needs more power than usuall, thus needing a seperate connetion of power from your PSU. Are you sure a 4 Pin connector is attached to the card?

Yup, I had just realized yesterday when I got the card that my power supply wasn't enough for it, so I picked up a new PSU today (500W) and put it in, and the same results. Moniter wouldn't turn on.

Also, it has a 6-pin connector to the PSU, and yes, it is plugged in.

Lets, try a Hard Reset for your video card. Hard Reset means you have to remove the card then place it back in again, and make sure all the plugs are secured.

Another question, do you have a new motherboard too or just the video card?

YES.

The moniter is actually on, but just doesn't come out of standby or whatever when I turn the computer on. Also, sometimes when I try to turn my computer on, the screen turns on for a split second, then shuts off again.

No new motherboard, just a new card. I figured it was time to upgrade from my 6600 that I got two years ago along with the computer.

It's a CRT moniter, and somewhat old at that. I don't think it has a source button. Could that be the problem? I don't see why it would be...

How many amps does the 12v rail carry on your new psu?

Also try putting your old card back in and see if everything works like normal, be easier to tell if it's just cause the card is bad, or not getting enough power.

Well same here, I got myself a new Mobo and an NX8800GT which was a hell of a step forward from my AGP mobo and 6600. I experience the same problem when I installed the mobo and card but later found out that I just needed to reinstall Windows to fix the problem because my current Windows does not recognize the mobo. In your case however, since you don't have a ne mobo, then the problem could be in the card...or monitor. Did you do the Hard Reset yet?

Yup, I did the hard reset.. a few times in fact. Same results every time, moniter turns on then off.

Does your mobo have integrated graphics? If so have you disabled it in the bios?

Where is your Monitor Plugged in? Is it connected to the PSU or directly to your AVR/UPS?
