http://videos.howstuffworks.com/computer-build-1-video.htm That video will help you a lot I think it's video number 4 for putting on the cpu. Basically your just going to allign the cpu right and drop it in. then I think theres a safety lever that will snap into place (unsure about different mobos).

Oh duude, its SOOO easy. THe instructions are idiot proof, just match up the corners, pop it in, close the latch, install the heatsink, and your air tight. I have never shocked anything(i dont wear anti-static stuff either), just touch something that grounds you every once in a while.

Just touch your case or power supply from time to time. Don't try to ski on your carpet while you're installing and all will be fine.

I would never do that by mistake... But I did do it a lot on purpose... It's nice if they scream.... And breaking a light bulb off in a socket usually results is a bit of a shock...

Trust me I was like you, And I was a bit shy installing it. I mean I was really worried I might damage it or install it wrong, but it was so easy. MY real problems were like making hte motherboard fit, and screwing crap. It's really easy you just drop it, and pull the lever down with alot of force, not too hard though. Then just glob some thermal grease, I highly reccomend the ZM-stg1 it is better than artic silver 5, and its only 10 dollars, go on newegg and search for it. Also if you do that, I reccomend you put grease on your heatsink as well.

You forgot to add the thermal paste. You have to put thermal paste on your cpu.

No.... only if it's OEM or if you want to get a custom HSF.

Dude that ski quote made me fricking laugh out loud, holy crap. Hilarious. And i believe my E6400 had the thermal paste on it already...but either way, if you have a tube of goo in the package, its not likely your just gonna toss it.
