installing DX9 on Vista Home Premium?

Is it safe?

The game i want to install / play needs DX9.

What do you mean with safe? It's not a problem and everything should work like before.

You do not have to. DX10 does everything all prior versions of DX does.

I think that's not correct. Some (all?) DX9 games do not recognize DX10 and force to install DX9!

CD based installation programs will commonly run the DX9 setup without bothering to check if you already have that version or a newer one installed. So if you have popped in a CD to install a game, and part of that process said, "Do you want to install DX9 now?" - just say No.
