installing ubuntu help

first of all i put a new harddrive onto my computer and put it on the slave part. so whenever i start the computer it goes to a screen and then says insert boot or something and i put a ubuntu cd but nothing happens i need help

Go into your BIOS and look at the "Boot Order" make sure the CD-ROM Drive is set to boot first. If that does not work see if your HDD is properly set to slave with the jumpers. If that does not work get SATA and call it a day...

You need to make sure the CD-ROM drive in the Boot order (or at least before any of the HDDs). The Windows CD should be bootable but if the CD-ROM isn't first it still wont boot.

You need to make sure the CD-ROM drive in the Boot order (or at least before any of the HDDs). The Windows CD should be bootable but if the CD-ROM isn't first it still wont boot.

well i did but it doesnt say CD-Rom it say something with alot of numbers and letters

I'm being general... Just make your CD-Rom, DVD-Rom , Blu-Ray, or HD DVD-Rom drive first under Boot Order. (Example. Samsung-DVD-02892)

i did but still nothing happens it just says please insert boot media and press any button and i did that but still nothing happens
