Intel 1366 & 1156 socket types = no onboard gpu?

Im building a rig for a friend and he either wants a core i7 or a core i5 an hes a little short on money to buy a real gpu so i figured i'd get him a mobo with onboard until he saves up some moreto buy one of ati's new dx11 gpu's or one of nvidias upcoming GT300's......but......

to my surprise.....every motherboard that sports the new socket types fail to have any kind of onboard gpu?

i dont get it...

can anyone fill me in?

is nvidia and ati at war with intel or something?

whats with the lack of onboard gpu support.

ill probably buy him a GTX 260 using money out of my own pocket but im still shocked the new mobo's dont support any kinna onboard gpu.

Intel makes most onboard graphics. Therefore, a "war" would have nothing to do with it.

if ur worried about money get the i5 but if u must dont get anything over the i7 920

intel's gpu's are garbage....i wouldnt wanna put them on my motherboards either.

but whats so hard about putting out a few motherboards with some onboard gpu's?

when AMD's AM3 socket came out they had full onboard gpu support

The P55 and X58 chipsets aren't meant for the low end user. They are meant for the low-end enthusiast and higher. The P55/i5 750 is meant to be cheaper for other users to buy, but it still costs a pretty penny.

That pretty penny is also expected to be spent on a dedicated video card.
