hi guys, I was just curious as to what kind of temperature I should be getting when my PC is idling?

I have recently upgraded to a Q6600 and placed an ASUS Silent Knight Cooling fan monstrosity on top of it, but it seems to be reaching temperatures of 50+ degrees and thats just when I turn it on, I am using ASUS PC probe and ASUS AI Booster to measure the temps, does anyone have any other programmes I might use to get a more accurate reading?

I have not overclocked the PC in any way but these temps seem crazy, I have checked all the fans inside the PC and they are all running, but for the CPU to be idling at around 50 degrees, I would like to know if its ok.

Cheers for listening...reading

I tinkered a little bit more with the cooler, and I think maybe I installed it in a bit of a rush, I realized one of the clips were not fastened properly, I tried it agin and now it is idling at around 30 degrees which is much more comforting.

What other CPU Temperature programmes are out there anyway just so I can get a more accurate reading of mulicore processors?

PC Wizard 2007 is great for temps and other information. I like speedfan too, but it was reading my Q6600 temps 15c too low. I was able to adjust it once I noticed.

what's your quad core's steping? B3 or G0

if you have B3 high temps are normal

if you have G0 your temps are too high
