which is better? also is an Intel Core 2 E8500(3.16GHz) better than both or one of them?

IMO......if your not going to do any overclocking....just get an E8400.

I was looking into this myself. Clock for clock 9300 beats the 6600 despite having a smaller cache (if they both were 2.4GHz). At the same time however the 9300 is also clocked faster. The only problem with the 9300 is that it has a very low multiplier, so if you are planning to overclock you will have to push your FSB very high, and because of that, these OC up to about a 3.6GHz ceiling, although with a higher multiplier they would be able to hit 4GHz.. Using a cheaper motherboard hitting that high FSB might not be possible, and the 6600 would be easier to get to high speed. I would stick with the quad over the dual core, more and more apps are beginning to utilize them, so it's future proofing to some extent. The questions you should ask yourself are, Am I going to overclock? How well does my motherboard overclock?
