I am planning to buy a laptop with the IntelĀ® Core™ i5-430M Processor.

It says the CPU has 2 cores and 4 threads. Does having 4 threads means it is the same as a quad core CPU, or is it slower or faster than a quad core? Thanks.

It will be slower than a quad. Basically, hyperthreading is only good for multitasking. There is only 2 physical cores, the extra threads are just a bonus.

quadcores are faster since they actually have 4 physical cores...the i5 has 2 physical cores but can process 2 threads at the same time = 4 threads
